Narrated Muhammad bin Al-Mujalid: `Abdullah bin Shaddad and Abu Burda sent me to `Abdullah bin Abi `Aufa and told me to ask `Abdullah whether the people in the lifetime of the Prophet used to pay in advance for wheat (to be delivered later). `Abdullah replied, We used to pay in advance to the peasants of Sham for wheat, barley and olive oil of a known specified measure to be delivered in a specified period. I asked (him), Was the price paid (in advance) to those who had the things to be delivered later? `Abdullah bin `Aufa replied, We did not use to ask them about that. Then they sent me to `Abdur Rahman bin Abza and I asked him. He replied, The companions of the Prophet used to practice Salam in the lifetime of the Prophet; and we did not use to ask them whether they had standing crops or not.

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا الشَّيْبَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي الْمُجَالِدِ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ شَدَّادٍ ، وَأَبُو بُرْدَةَ ، إِلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، فَقَالَا : سَلْهُ ، هَلْ كَانَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُسْلِفُونَ فِي الْحِنْطَةِ ؟ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : كُنَّا نُسْلِفُ نَبِيطَ أَهْلِ الشَّأْمِ فِي الْحِنْطَةِ ، وَالشَّعِيرِ ، وَالزَّيْتِ ، فِي كَيْلٍ مَعْلُومٍ إِلَى أَجَلٍ مَعْلُومٍ ، قُلْتُ : إِلَى مَنْ كَانَ أَصْلُهُ عِنْدَهُ ، قَالَ : مَا كُنَّا نَسْأَلُهُمْ عَنْ ذَلِكَ ، ثُمَّ بَعَثَانِي إِلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ ، فَقَالَ : كَانَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُسْلِفُونَ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَلَمْ نَسْأَلْهُمْ أَلَهُمْ حَرْثٌ أَمْ لَا . حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي مُجَالِدٍبِهَذَا ، وَقَالَ : فَنُسْلِفُهُمْ فِي الْحِنْطَةِ ، وَالشَّعِيرِ ، وَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الشَّيْبَانِيُّ ، وَقَالَ وَالزَّيْتِ ، حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ ، وَقَالَ : فِي الْحِنْطَةِ ، وَالشَّعِيرِ ، وَالزَّبِيبِ .

ہم سے موسیٰ بن اسماعیل نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم سے عبدالواحد نے بیان کیا، ان سے شیبانی نے بیان کیا، ان سے محمد بن ابی مجالد نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ مجھے عبداللہ بن شداد اور ابوبردہ نے عبداللہ بن ابی اوفی رضی اللہ عنہما کے یہاں بھیجا اور ہدایت کی کہ ان سے پوچھو کہ کیا نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے اصحاب آپ کے زمانے میں گیہوں کی بیع سلم کرتے تھے؟ عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے جواب دیا کہ ہم شام کے انباط ( ایک کاشتکار قوم ) کے ساتھ گیہوں، جوار، زیتون کی مقررہ وزن اور مقررہ مدت کے لیے سودا کیا کرتے تھے۔ میں نے پوچھا کیا صرف اسی شخص سے آپ لوگ یہ بیع کیا کرتے تھے جس کے پاس اصل مال موجود ہوتا تھا؟ انہوں نے فرمایا کہ ہم اس کے متعلق پوچھتے ہی نہیں تھے۔ اس کے بعد ان دونوں حضرات نے مجھے عبدالرحمٰن بن ابزیٰ رضی اللہ عنہ کے خدمت میں بھیجا۔ میں نے ان سے بھی پوچھا۔ انہوں نے بھی یہی کہا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے اصحاب آپ کے عہد مبارک میں بیع سلم کیا کرتے تھے اور ہم یہ بھی نہیں پوچھتے تھے کہ ان کے کھیتی بھی ہے یا نہیں۔ ہم سے اسحاق بن شاہین نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے خالد بن عبداللہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے شیبانی نے، ان سے محمد بن ابی مجالد نے یہی حدیث۔ اس روایت میں یہ بیان کیا کہ ہم ان سے گیہوں اور جَو میں بیع سلم کیا کرتے تھے۔ اور عبداللہ بن ولید نے بیان کیا، ان سے سفیان نے، ان سے شیبانی نے بیان کیا، اس میں انہوں نے زیتون کا بھی نام لیا ہے۔ ہم سے قتیبہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے جریر نے بیان کیا، ان سے شیبانی نے، اور اس میں بیان کیا کہ گیہوں، جَو اور منقی میں ( بیع سلم کیا کرتے تھے ) ۔

Narrated Abu Bakhtari at-Tai: I asked Ibn `Abbas about Salam for (the fruits of) date-palms. He replied The Prophet forbade the sale a dates on the trees till they became fit for eating and could be weighed. A man asked what to be weighed (as the dates were still on the trees). Another man sitting beside Ibn `Abbas replied, Till they are cut and stored. Narrated Abu Al-Bakhtari: I heard Ibn `Abbas (saying) that the Prophet forbade ... etc. as above.

Narrated Abu Al-Bakhtari: I asked Ibn `Umar about Salam (the fruits of) date-palms. He replied, The Prophet forbade the sale of dates till their benefit becomes evident and fit for eating and also the sale of silver (for gold) on credit. I asked Ibn `Abbas about Salam for dates and he replied, The Prophet forbade the sale of dates till they were fit for eating and could be estimated.

Narrated Abu Al-Bakhtari: I asked Ibn `Umar about Salam for dates. Ibn `Umar replied, The Prophet forbade the sale (the fruits) of date-palms until they were fit for eating and also forbade the sale of silver for gold on credit. I also asked Ibn `Abbas about it. Ibn `Abbas replied, The Prophet forbade the sale of dates till they were fit for eating, and could be weighed. I asked him, What is to be weighed (as the dates are on the trees)? A man sitting by Ibn `Abbas said, It means till they are cut and stored.
