Translation

Narrated Safwan bin Ya'la: Ya'la said to 'Umar, Show me the Prophet (saws) when he is being inspired Divinely. While the Prophet (saws) was at Ji'rana (in the company of some of his Companions) a person came and asked, O Allah's Messenger! What is your verdict regarding that person who assumes Ihram for 'Umra and is scented with perfume ? The Prophet (saws) kept quiet for a while and he was Divinely inspired (then). 'Umar beckoned Ya'la. So he came, and the Allah's Messenger (saws) was shaded with sheet. Ya'la put his head in and saw that the face of Allah's Messenger was red and he was snoring. When the state of the Prophet (saws) was over, he (saws) asked, Where is the person who asked about 'Umra? Then that person was brought and the Prophet (saws) said, Wash the perfume off your body thrice and take off the cloak and do the same in 'Umra as you do in Hajj.

قَالَ أَبُو عَاصِمٍ , أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ , أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءٌ أَنَّ صَفْوَانَ بْنَ يَعْلَى أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ يَعْلَى قَالَ لِعُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : أَرِنِي النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ يُوحَى إِلَيْهِ , قَالَ : فَبَيْنَمَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْجِعْرَانَةِ وَمَعَهُ نَفَرٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ جَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ , فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ تَرَى فِي رَجُلٍ أَحْرَمَ بِعُمْرَةٍ وَهُوَ مُتَضَمِّخٌ بِطِيبٍ فَسَكَتَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَاعَةً فَجَاءَهُ الْوَحْيُ فَأَشَارَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ إِلَى يَعْلَى فَجَاءَ يَعْلَى وَعَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثَوْبٌ قَدْ أُظِلَّ بِهِ فَأَدْخَلَ رَأْسَهُ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُحْمَرُّ الْوَجْهِ وَهُوَ يَغِطُّ ثُمَّ سُرِّيَ عَنْهُ , فَقَالَ : أَيْنَ الَّذِي سَأَلَ عَنِ الْعُمْرَةِ ؟ فَأُتِيَ بِرَجُلٍ , فَقَالَ : اغْسِلِ الطِّيبَ الَّذِي بِكَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَانْزِعْ عَنْكَ الْجُبَّةَ وَاصْنَعْ فِي عُمْرَتِكَ كَمَا تَصْنَعُ فِي حَجَّتِكَ , قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ : أَرَادَ الْإِنْقَاءَ حِينَ أَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَغْسِلَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ , قَالَ : نَعَمْ .

ہم سے محمد نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے ابوعاصم، ضحاک بن مخلد نبیل نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہمیں ابن جریج نے خبر دی کہا کہ مجھے عطاء بن ابی رباح نے خبر دی، انہیں صفوان بن یعلیٰ نے، کہا کہ ان کے باپ یعلیٰ بن امیہ نے عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہا کہ کبھی آپ مجھے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو اس حال میں دکھایئے جب آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پر وحی نازل ہو رہی ہو۔ انہوں نے بیان کیا کہ ایک بار رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم جعرانہ میں اپنے اصحاب کی ایک جماعت کے ساتھ ٹھہرے ہوئے تھے کہ ایک شخص نے آ کر پوچھا یا رسول اللہ! اس شخص کے متعلق آپ کا کیا حکم ہے جس نے عمرہ کا احرام اس طرح باندھا کہ اس کے کپڑے خوشبو میں بسے ہوئے ہوں۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اس پر تھوڑی دیر کے لیے چپ ہو گئے۔ پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پر وحی نازل ہوئی تو عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے یعلیٰ رضی اللہ عنہ کو اشارہ کیا۔ یعلیٰ آئے تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پر ایک کپڑا تھا جس کے اندر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم تشریف رکھتے تھے۔ انہوں نے کپڑے کے اندر اپنا سر کیا تو کیا دیکھتے ہیں کہ روئے مبارک سرخ ہے اور آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم خراٹے لے رہے ہیں۔ پھر یہ حالت ختم ہوئی تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ وہ شخص کہاں ہے جس نے عمرہ کے متعلق پوچھا تھا۔ شخص مذکور حاضر کیا گیا تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ جو خوشبو لگا رکھی ہے اسے تین مرتبہ دھو لے اور اپنا جبہ اتار دے۔ عمرہ میں بھی اسی طرح کر جس طرح حج میں کرتے ہو۔ میں نے عطاء سے پوچھا کہ کیا نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے تین مرتبہ دھونے کے حکم سے پوری طرح صفائی مراد تھی؟ تو انہوں نے کہا کہ ہاں۔

Narrated `Aisha: (the wife of the Prophet (p.b.u.h) I used to scent Allah's Apostle when he wanted to assume Ihram and also on finishing Ihram before the Tawaf round the Ka`ba (Tawaf-al-ifada).

Narrated Salim from his father: I heard that Allah's Apostle assumed Ihram with his hair matted together.

Narrated Salim bin `Abdullah: I heard my father saying, Never did Allah's Apostle assume Ihram except at the Mosque, that is, at the Mosque of Dhul-Hulaifa.

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar: A man asked, O Allah's Apostle! What kind of clothes should a Muhrim wear? Allah's Apostle replied, He should not wear a shirt, a turban, trousers, a headcloak or leather socks except if he can find no slippers, he then may wear leather socks after cutting off what might cover the ankles. And he should not wear clothes which are scented with saffron or Wars (kinds of Perfumes) .
