Narrated Anas bin Seereen: We went to receive Anas bin Malik when he returned from Sham and met him at a place called 'Ainat- Tamr. I saw him praying riding the donkey, with his face to this direction, i.e. to the left of the Qibla. I said to him, I have seen you offering the prayer in a direction other than that of the Qibla. He replied, If I had not seen Allah's Apostle doing it, I would not have done it.

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَبَّانُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ سِيرِينَ ، قَالَ : اسْتَقْبَلْنَا أَنَسًا بْنَ مَالِكٍ حِينَ قَدِمَ مِنْ الشَّأْمِ ، فَلَقِينَاهُ بِعَيْنِ التَّمْرِ فَرَأَيْتُهُ يُصَلِّي عَلَى حِمَارٍ وَوَجْهُهُ مِنْ ذَا الْجَانِبِ يَعْنِي عَنْ يَسَارِ الْقِبْلَةِ ، فَقُلْتُ : رَأَيْتُكَ تُصَلِّي لِغَيْرِ الْقِبْلَةِ ، فَقَالَ : لَوْلَا أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَعَلَهُ لَمْ أَفْعَلْهُ ، رَوَاهُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ ابْنُ طَهْمَانَ ، عَنْ حَجَّاجٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .

ہم سے احمد بن سعید نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے حبان بن ہلال نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے ہمام بن یحییٰ نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے انس بن سیرین نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ انس رضی اللہ عنہ شام سے جب ( حجاج کی خلیفہ سے شکایت کر کے ) واپس ہوئے تو ہم ان سے عین التمر میں ملے۔ میں نے دیکھا کہ آپ گدھے پر سوار ہو کر نماز پڑھ رہے تھے اور آپ کا منہ قبلہ سے بائیں طرف تھا۔ اس پر میں نے کہا کہ میں نے آپ کو قبلہ کے سوا دوسری طرف منہ کر کے نماز پڑھتے ہوئے دیکھا ہے۔ انہوں نے جواب دیا کہ اگر میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو ایسا کرتے نہ دیکھتا تو میں بھی نہ کرتا۔ اس روایت کو ابراہیم ابن طہمان نے بھی حجاج سے، انہوں نے انس بن سیرین سے، انہوں نے انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ سے اور انہوں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے بیان کیا ہے۔

Narrated Hafs bin `Asim: Ibn `Umar went on a journey and said, I accompanied the Prophet and he did not offer optional prayers during the journey, and Allah says: 'Verily! In Allah's Apostle you have a good example to follow.' (33.21)

Narrated Ibn `Umar: I accompanied Allah's Apostle and he never offered more than two rak`at during the journey. Abu Bakr, `Umar and `Uthman used to do the same.

Narrated Ibn Abu Laila: Only Um Hani told us that she had seen the Prophet (p.b.u.h) offering the Duha (forenoon prayer). She said, On the day of the conquest of Mecca, the Prophet took a bath in my house and offered eight rak`at. I never saw him praying such a light prayer but he performed perfect prostration and bowing.

Narrated `Abdullah bin Amir that his father had told him that he had seen the Prophet (p.b.u.h) praying Nawafil at night on the back of his Mount on a journey, facing whatever direction it took.

Narrated Salim bin `Abdullah: Ibn `Umar said, Allah's Apostle used to pray the Nawafil on the back of his Mount (carriage) by signs facing any direction. Ibn `Umar used to do the same.
