Narrated Hafs bin `Asim: Ibn `Umar went on a journey and said, I accompanied the Prophet and he did not offer optional prayers during the journey, and Allah says: 'Verily! In Allah's Apostle you have a good example to follow.' (33.21)

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، أَنَّ حَفْصَ بْنَ عَاصِمٍ حَدَّثَهُ ، قَالَ : سَافَرَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، فَقَالَ : صَحِبْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمْ أَرَهُ يُسَبِّحُ فِي السَّفَرِ ، وَقَالَ اللَّهُ جَلَّ ذِكْرُهُ : لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ سورة الأحزاب آية 21 .

ہم سے یحییٰ بن سلیمان کوفی نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ مجھ سے عبداللہ بن وہب نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ مجھ سے عمر بن محمد بن یزید نے بیان کیا کہ حفص بن عاصم بن عمر نے ان سے بیان کیا کہ میں نے سفر میں سنتوں کے متعلق عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے پوچھا آپ نے فرمایا کہ میں نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی صحبت میں رہا ہوں۔ میں نے آپ کو سفر میں کبھی سنتیں پڑھتے نہیں دیکھا اور اللہ جل ذکرہ کا ارشاد ہے کہ تمہارے لیے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی زندگی بہترین نمونہ ہے۔

Narrated Ibn `Umar: I accompanied Allah's Apostle and he never offered more than two rak`at during the journey. Abu Bakr, `Umar and `Uthman used to do the same.

Narrated Ibn Abu Laila: Only Um Hani told us that she had seen the Prophet (p.b.u.h) offering the Duha (forenoon prayer). She said, On the day of the conquest of Mecca, the Prophet took a bath in my house and offered eight rak`at. I never saw him praying such a light prayer but he performed perfect prostration and bowing.

Narrated `Abdullah bin Amir that his father had told him that he had seen the Prophet (p.b.u.h) praying Nawafil at night on the back of his Mount on a journey, facing whatever direction it took.

Narrated Salim bin `Abdullah: Ibn `Umar said, Allah's Apostle used to pray the Nawafil on the back of his Mount (carriage) by signs facing any direction. Ibn `Umar used to do the same.
