Narrated Usamah bin Zaid: I was sitting [with the Prophet (ﷺ)] when 'Ali and Al-'Abbas came seeking permission to enter. They said: 'O Usamah, seek permission for us from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).' So I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, 'Ali and Al-'Abbas seek permission to enter.' He said: 'Do you know what has brought them?' I said: 'No [I do not know].' So the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'But I know, grant them permission.' So they entered and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we have come to you, to ask you which of your family is most beloved to you.' He said: 'Fatimah bint Muhammad.' So they said: 'We did not come to ask you about (immediate) family.' He said: 'The most beloved of my family to me is the one whom Allah favored and I favored, Usamah bin Zaid.' They said: 'Then who?' He said: 'Then 'Ali bin Abi Talib.' Al-'Abbas said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you have made your uncle the last of them.' He said: 'Indeed, 'Ali has preceded you in emigration.'

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَنِي أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذْ جَاءَ عَلِيٌّ،‏‏‏‏ وَالْعَبَّاسُ يَسْتَأْذِنَانِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَا:‏‏‏‏ يَا أُسَامَةُ اسْتَأْذِنْ لَنَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ عَلِيٌّ،‏‏‏‏ وَالْعَبَّاسُ يَسْتَأْذِنَانِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَتَدْرِي مَا جَاءَ بِهِمَا ؟ ،‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ لَا أَدْرِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ لَكِنِّي أَدْرِي ،‏‏‏‏ فَأَذِنَ لَهُمَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَدَخَلَا فَقَالَا:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ جِئْنَاكَ نَسْأَلُكَ أَيُّ أَهْلِكَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْكَ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَا:‏‏‏‏ مَا جِئْنَاكَ نَسْأَلُكَ عَنْ أَهْلِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَحَبُّ أَهْلِي إِلَيَّ مَنْ قَدْ أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَنْعَمْتُ عَلَيْهِ أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ مَنْ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ جَعَلْتَ عَمَّكَ آخِرَهُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لِأَنَّ عَلِيًّا قَدْ سَبَقَكَ بِالْهِجْرَةِ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَسَنٌ وَكَانَ شُعْبَةُ يُضَعِّفُ عُمَرَ بْنَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ.

اسامہ بن زید رضی الله عنہما کا بیان ہے کہ میں نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس بیٹھا ہوا تھا، اتنے میں علی اور عباس رضی الله عنہما دونوں اندر آنے کی اجازت مانگنے لگے، انہوں نے کہا: اسامہ! ہمارے لیے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے اجازت مانگو، تو میں نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! علی اور عباس دونوں اندر آنے کی اجازت مانگ رہے ہیں، آپ نے فرمایا: ”کیا تمہیں معلوم ہے کہ وہ کیوں آئے ہیں؟“ میں نے عرض کیا: میں نہیں جانتا، اس پر نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”مجھے تو معلوم ہے“، پھر آپ نے انہیں اجازت دے دی وہ اندر آئے اور عرض کیا کہ ہم آپ کے پاس اس لیے آئے ہیں تاکہ ہم آپ سے پوچھیں کہ آپ کے اہل میں آپ کو سب سے زیادہ محبوب کون ہے؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”فاطمہ بنت محمد“، تو وہ دونوں بولے: ہم آپ کی اولاد کے متعلق نہیں پوچھتے ہیں، آپ نے فرمایا: ”میرے گھر والوں میں مجھے سب سے زیادہ محبوب وہ ہے جس پر اللہ نے انعام کیا اور میں نے انعام کیا ہے، اور وہ اسامہ بن زید ہیں“، وہ دونوں بولے: پھر کون؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”پھر علی بن ابی طالب ہیں“، عباس بولے: اللہ کے رسول! آپ نے اپنے چچا کو پیچھے کر دیا، آپ نے فرمایا: ”علی نے تم سے پہلے ہجرت کی ہے“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- شعبہ: عمر بن ابی سلمہ کو ضعیف قرار دیتے تھے۔

So I told the dream to Hafsah, so she told it to the Prophet (ﷺ), so he said: 'Indeed, your brother is a righteous man,' or 'Indeed, 'Abdullah is a righteous man.'
