Narrated Ubayy bin Ka'b: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to him: Indeed, Allah ordered me to recite to you, so he recited in it: Those who disbelieve from amongst the Book were not going to...' (And he) also recited in it, Indeed, the religion with Allah is Al-Hanafiyyah, the Muslim, not Judaism, nor Christianity, whoever does good, it shall not be rejected from him. And he recited to him: And if the son of Adam had a valley-full of wealth, he would seek a second, and if he had a second, he would seek a third, and nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except for dirt. And Allah pardons those who repent.

حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، قَال:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ زِرَّ بْنَ حُبَيْشٍ يُحَدِّثُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَهُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَقْرَأَ عَلَيْكَ فَقَرَأَ عَلَيْهِ لَمْ يَكُنِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ فَقَرَأَ فِيهَا:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ ذَاتَ الدِّينِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ الْحَنِيفِيَّةُ الْمُسْلِمَةُ لَا الْيَهُودِيَّةُ،‏‏‏‏ وَلَا النَّصْرَانِيَّةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏مَنْ يَعْمَلْ خَيْرًا فَلَنْ يُكْفَرَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَرَأَ عَلَيْهِ:‏‏‏‏ وَلَوْ أَنَّ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيًا مِنْ مَالٍ لَابْتَغَى إِلَيْهِ ثَانِيًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَوْ كَانَ لَهُ ثَانِيًا لَابْتَغَى إِلَيْهِ ثَالِثًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا يَمْلَأُ جَوْفَ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلَّا التُّرَابُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيَتُوبُ اللَّهُ عَلَى مَنْ تَابَ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رُوِيَ مِنْ غَيْرِ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ رَوَاهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَقْرَأَ عَلَيْكَ الْقُرْآنَ . وَقَدْ رَوَى قَتَادَةُ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِأُبَيٍّ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَقْرَأَ عَلَيْكَ الْقُرْآنَ .

ابی بن کعب رضی الله عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ان سے فرمایا: ”اللہ نے مجھے حکم دیا ہے کہ میں تمہیں پڑھ کر سناؤں“، پھر آپ نے انہیں «لم يكن الذين كفروا من أهل الكتاب» پڑھ کر سنایا، اور اس میں یہ بھی پڑھا ۱؎ «إن ذات الدين عند الله الحنيفية المسلمة لا اليهودية ولا النصرانية من يعمل خيرا فلن يكفره» ”بیشک دین والی ۲؎ اللہ کے نزدیک تمام ادیان و ملل سے رشتہ کاٹ کر اللہ کی جانب یکسو ہو جانے والی مسلمان عورت ہے نہ کہ یہودی اور نصرانی عورت جو کوئی نیکی کا کام کرے تو وہ ہرگز اس کی ناقدری نہ کرے“، اور آپ نے ان کے سامنے یہ بھی پڑھا: ۳؎ «ولو أن لابن آدم واديا من مال لابتغى إليه ثانيا ولو كان له ثانيا لابتغى إليه ثالثا ولا يملأ جوف ابن آدم إلا التراب ويتوب الله على من تاب» ”اگر ابن آدم کے پاس مال کی ایک وادی ہو تو وہ دوسری وادی کی خواہش کرے گا اور اگر اسے دوسری بھی مل جائے تو وہ تیسری چاہے گا، اور آدم زادہ کا پیٹ صرف خاک ہی بھر سکے گی ۴؎، اور جو توبہ کرے تو اللہ اس کی توبہ قبول فرماتا ہے“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- یہ حدیث اس سند کے علاوہ دوسری سند سے بھی آئی ہے، ۳- اسے عبداللہ بن عبدالرحمٰن بن ابزی نے اپنے والد عبدالرحمٰن بن ابزی سے اور انہوں نے ابی بن کعب سے روایت کیا ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ابی بن کعب سے فرمایا: ”اللہ نے مجھے حکم دیا ہے کہ میں تمہارے سامنے قرآن پڑھوں“، ۴- قتادہ نے انس سے روایت کیا ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ابی بن کعب رضی الله عنہ سے فرمایا کہ ”اللہ نے مجھے حکم دیا ہے کہ میں تمہارے سامنے قرآن پڑھوں“۔

Narrated Qatadah: that Anas bin Malik said: Four gathered the Qur'an during the time of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), all of them are from the Ansar: Ubayy bin Ka'b, Mu'adh bin Jabal, Zaid bin Thabit, and Abu Zaid. I said to Anas: Who is Abu Zaid? He said: One of my uncles.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: What an excellent man is Abu Bakr, what an excellent man is 'Umar, what an excellent man is Abu 'Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah, what an excellent man is Usaid bin Hudair, what an excellent man is Thabit bin Qais bin Shammas, what an excellent man is Mua'dh bin Jabal, and what an excellent man is Mu'adh bin 'Amr bin Al-Jamuh.

Narrated Hudhaifah bin Al-Yaman: that Al-'Aqib and As-Sayyid (two of the leaders of the Christians of Najran) came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: Send us your trustworthy one. He said: I shall send with you a trustworthy one who is truly a trustworthy one. So the people desired that, and he sent Abu 'Ubaidah, may Allah be pleased with him.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Indeed, Paradise longs for three: 'Ali, 'Ammar, and Salman.
