Narrated Ibn Abi Mu'alla: from his father: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) gave a Khutbah one day and said: 'Indeed there is a man whose Lord has given him the choice between living in this life as long as he wishes to live, and eating from this life as much as he wishes to eat, and between meeting his Lord.' He said: So Abu Bakr cried. The Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Are you not amazed at this old man, when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) mentioned a righteous man whose Lord gave him the choice between this life or meeting his Lord, and he chose meeting his Lord.' He said: But Abu Bakr was the most knowledgeable one of them regarding what the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had said. So Abu Bakr said: 'Rather we will ransom our fathers and wealth for you.; So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'There is no one among people more beneficial to us (Amanna Ilaina) in his companionship, or generous with his wealth than Ibn Abi Quhafah. And, if I were to take a Khalil, I would have taken Ibn Abi Quhafah as a Khalil. But rather love and the brotherhood of faith' - saying that two or three times - 'Indeed your companion is the Khalil of Allah.'

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي الشَّوَارِبِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي الْمُعَلَّى، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطَبَ يَوْمًا،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ رَجُلًا خَيَّرَهُ رَبُّهُ بَيْنَ أَنْ يَعِيشَ فِي الدُّنْيَا مَا شَاءَ أَنْ يَعِيشَ،‏‏‏‏ وَيَأْكُلَ فِي الدُّنْيَا مَا شَاءَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ،‏‏‏‏ وَبَيْنَ لِقَاءِ رَبِّهِ فَاخْتَارَ لِقَاءَ رَبِّهِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَبَكَى أَبُو بَكْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ أَلَا تَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ هَذَا الشَّيْخِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِذْ ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلًا صَالِحًا خَيَّرَهُ رَبُّهُ بَيْنَ الدُّنْيَا وَبَيْنَ لِقَاءِ رَبِّهِ،‏‏‏‏ فَاخْتَارَ لِقَاءَ رَبِّهِ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَكَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَعْلَمَهُمْ بِمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ:‏‏‏‏ بَلْ نَفْدِيكَ بِآبَائِنَا وَأَمْوَالِنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا مِنَ النَّاسِ أَحَدٌ أَمَنَّ إِلَيْنَا فِي صُحْبَتِهِ وَذَاتِ يَدِهِ مِنَ ابْنِ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَوْ كُنْتُ مُتَّخِذًا خَلِيلًا لَاتَّخَذْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ خَلِيلًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَكِنْ وُدٌّ وَإِخَاءُ إِيمَانٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وُدٌّ وَإِخَاءُ إِيمَانٍ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا،‏‏‏‏ وَإِنَّ صَاحِبَكُمْ خَلِيلُ اللَّهِ . وَفِي الْبَابِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ عَنْ أَبِي عَوَانَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ بِإِسْنَادٍ غَيْرِ هَذَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَعْنَى قَوْلِهِ:‏‏‏‏ أَمَنَّ إِلَيْنَا يَعْنِي أَمَنَّ عَلَيْنَا.

ابومعلی رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایک دن خطبہ دیا تو فرمایا: ”ایک شخص کو اس کے رب نے اختیار دیا کہ وہ دینا میں جتنا رہنا چاہے رہے اور جتنا کھانا چاہے کھا لے یا اپنے رب سے ملنے کو ( ترجیح دے ) تو اس نے اپنے رب سے ملنے کو پسند کیا، وہ کہتے ہیں: یہ سن کر ابوبکر رضی الله عنہ رو پڑے، تو صحابہ نے کہا: کیا تمہیں اس بوڑھے کے رونے پر تعجب نہیں ہوتا جب رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایک نیک بندے کا ذکر کیا کہ اس کے رب نے دو باتوں میں سے ایک کا اسے اختیار دیا کہ وہ دنیا میں رہے یا اپنے رب سے ملے، تو اس نے اپنے رب سے ملاقات کو پسند کیا۔ ابوبکر رضی الله عنہ ان میں سب سے زیادہ ان باتوں کو جاننے والے تھے جو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ( رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی بات سن کر ) ابوبکر رضی الله عنہ نے کہا: بلکہ ہم اپنے باپ دادا، اپنے مال سب کو آپ پر قربان کر دیں گے، تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”کوئی آدمی ایسا نہیں جو ابن ابی قحافہ سے بڑھ کر میرا حق صحبت ادا کرنے والا ہو اور میرے اوپر اپنا مال خرچ کرنے والا ہو، اگر میں کسی کو خلیل ( گہرا دوست ) بناتا تو ابن ابی قحافہ کو دوست بناتا، لیکن ( ہمارے اور ان کے درمیان ) ایمان کی دوستی موجود ہے“۔ یہ کلمہ آپ نے دو یا تین بار فرمایا، پھر فرمایا: ”تمہارا یہ ساتھی ( یعنی خود ) اللہ کا خلیل ( دوست ) ہے“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- اس باب میں ابو سعید خدری رضی الله عنہ سے بھی روایت آئی ہے اور یہ حدیث حسن غریب ہے، ۲- یہ حدیث ابو عوانہ کے واسطہ سے عبدالملک بن عمیر سے ایک دوسری سند سے بھی آئی ہے، اور «أمن إلينا» میں «إلى»،‏‏‏‏ «على» کے معنی میں ہے، یعنی مجھ پر سب سے زیادہ احسان کرنے والا۔

Narrated Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sat upon the Minbar and said: 'Indeed a worshiper has been given a choice by Allah, between Him giving him from the bounty of this life as much as he wishes, and between what is with Him. So he chose what is with Him.' So Abu Bakr said: 'We will ransom our fathers and mothers for you O Messenger of Allah!' He said: So we were amazed. Then the people said: 'Look at this old man. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) informs about a worshiper whom Allah gave the choice, between Him giving him from the bounty of this life as much as he wishes, and between that which is with Allah, and he says: 'We will ransom our fathers and mothers for you?' But the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was the one given the choice, and Abu Bakr was the most knowledgeable of it among them. So the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'From those who were most beneficial to me among the people in their companionship and their wealth was Abu Bakr. And if I were to take a Khalil, I would would have taken Abu Bakr as a Khalil. But rather, the brotherhood of Islam. Let there not remain a door in the Masjid except the door of Abu Bakr.'

Narrated Abu Hurairah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: There is no favor due upon us from anyone, except that we have repaid him, with the exception of Abu Bakr. Verily upon us, there is a favor due to him, which Allah will repay him on the Day of Judgement. No one's wealth has benefited as Abu Bakr's wealth has benefited me. And if I were to take a Khalil, then I would have taken Abu Bakr as a Khalil, and indeed your companion is Allah's Khalil.

Narrated Hudhaifah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Stick to the two after me, Abu Bakr and 'Umar.

Narrated Hudhaifah [may Allah be pleased with him]: We were sitting with the Prophet (ﷺ) and he said: 'I do not know how long I will be with you, so stick to the two after me,' and he signaled towards Abu Bakr and 'Umar.

Narrated Anas: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said about Abu Bakr and 'Umar: These two are the masters of the elder people among the inhabitants of Paradise. From the first ones and the last ones, not including the Prophets and the Messengers. But do not inform them O 'Ali.

Narrated 'Ali bin Abi Talib: I was with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and Abu Bakr and 'Umar came up (in discussion), so the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'These two are the masters of the elder people among the inhabitants of Paradise. From the first ones and the last ones, not including the Prophets and the Messengers. But do not inform them O 'Ali.'
