Abu Sa’eed Al Khudri narrated the: Mu’awiyah came out to the Masjid and said: “What has caused you to gather for this sitting.” They said: “We gathered so that we may remember Allah.” He said, “By Allah, nothing caused you to gather for this sitting except for that?” They said, “By Allah, nothing caused us to gather for this sitting except for that.” He said: “Indeed, I did not ask you out of suspicion, and there was no one in the position I was from the Messenger of Allah who narrates less Ahadith from him than me. Indeed the Messenger of Allah came out upon a circle of his Companions and said: ‘what has caused you to gather for this sitting?’ They said: ‘We have gathered for this sitting to remember Allah, and praise Him for His having guided us to Islam, and having bestowed blessings upon us.’ So he said: ‘By Allah, nothing caused you to gather for this sitting except for that?’ He said: ‘Indeed, I did not ask you out of suspicion, verily Jibra’il came to me and informed me that Allah boasts of you to the angels.’”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مَرْحُومُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الْعَطَّارُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نَعَامَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ خَرَجَ مُعَاوِيَةُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا يُجْلِسُكُمْ ؟ قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ جَلَسْنَا نَذْكُرُ اللَّهَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ آللَّهِ مَا أَجْلَسَكُمْ إِلَّا ذَاكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ وَاللَّهِ مَا أَجْلَسَنَا إِلَّا ذَاكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَمَا إِنِّي لَمْ أَسْتَحْلِفْكُمْ تُهْمَةً لَكُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَا كَانَ أَحَدٌ بِمَنْزِلَتِي مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقَلَّ حَدِيثًا عَنْهُ مِنِّي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ عَلَى حَلْقَةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا يُجْلِسُكُمْ ؟ قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ جَلَسْنَا نَذْكُرُ اللَّهَ وَنَحْمَدُهُ لِمَا هَدَانَا لِلْإِسْلَامِ وَمَنَّ عَلَيْنَا بِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ آللَّهِ مَا أَجْلَسَكُمْ إِلَّا ذَاكَ ؟ قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ آللَّهِ مَا أَجْلَسَنَا إِلَّا ذَاكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَمَا إِنِّي لَمْ أَسْتَحْلِفْكُمْ لِتُهْمَةٍ لَكُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنَّهُ أَتَانِي جِبْرِيلُ فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ اللَّهَ يُبَاهِي بِكُمُ الْمَلَائِكَةَ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لَا نَعْرِفُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو نَعَامَةَ السَّعْدِيُّ اسْمُهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ عِيسَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيُّ اسْمُهُ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُلٍّ.

ابو سعید خدری رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ معاویہ رضی الله عنہ مسجد گئے ( وہاں بیٹھے ہوئے لوگوں سے ) پوچھا: تم لوگ کس لیے بیٹھے ہو؟ ان لوگوں نے کہا: ہم یہاں بیٹھ کر اللہ کو یاد کرتے ہیں، معاویہ رضی الله عنہ نے کہا: کیا! قسم اللہ کی! تم کو اسی چیز نے یہاں بٹھا رکھا ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا: قسم اللہ کی، ہم اسی مقصد سے یہاں بیٹھے ہیں، معاویہ رضی الله عنہ نے کہا: میں نے تم لوگوں پر کسی تہمت کی بنا پر قسم نہیں کھلائی ہے ۱؎، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس میرے جیسا مقام و منزلت رکھنے والا کوئی شخص مجھ سے کم ( ادب و احتیاط کے سبب ) آپ سے حدیثیں بیان کرنے والا نہیں ہے۔ ( پھر بھی میں تمہیں یہ حدیث سنا رہا ہوں ) رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اپنے صحابہ کے پاس گئے وہ سب دائرہ لگا کر بیٹھے ہوئے تھے، ان سے کہا: کس لیے بیٹھے ہو؟ انہوں نے کہا: ہم یہاں بیٹھ کر اللہ کا ذکر کرتے ہیں، اللہ نے ہمیں اسلام کی طرف جو ہدایت دی ہے، اور مسلمان بنا کر ہم پر جو احسان فرمایا ہے ہم اس پر اس کا شکریہ ادا کرتے ہیں، اور اس کی حمد بیان کرتے ہیں، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”کیا واقعی؟ ! قسم ہے تمہیں اسی چیز نے یہاں بٹھا رکھا ہے؟“ انہوں نے کہا: قسم اللہ کی، ہمیں اسی مقصد نے یہاں بٹھایا ہے، آپ نے فرمایا: ”میں نے تمہیں قسم اس لیے نہیں دلائی ہے، میں نے تم لوگوں پر کسی تہمت کی بنا پر قسم نہیں کھلائی ہے، بات یہ ہے کہ جبرائیل علیہ السلام میرے پاس آئے اور انہوں نے مجھے بتایا اور خبر دی کہ اللہ تعالیٰ تمہارے ذریعہ فرشتوں پر فخر کرتا ہے“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث حسن غریب ہے، ہم اسے صرف اسی سند سے جانتے ہیں۔

Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with him] narrated that : the Prophet said: “No group gather in a sitting in which they do not remember Allah, nor sent Salat upon their Prophet, except it will be a source of remorse for them. If He wills, He will punish them, and if He wills, He will forgive them.”

Jabir narrated that : the Messenger of Allah said: “There is none who utters a supplication, except that Allah gives him what he asked, or prevents evil from him that is equal to it – as long as he does not supplicate for something evil, or the cutting of ties of the womb.”

Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with him] narrated that: The Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever wishes that Allah would respond to him during hardship and grief, then let him supplicate plentifully when at ease.”

Jabir bin `Abdullah (ra) narrated that : the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The best remembrance is: ‘there is none worthy of worship except Allah (Lā ilāha illallāh)’ and the best supplication is: ‘All praise is due to Allah (Al-ḥamdulillāh).’”

`A'ishah (ra) narrated that : the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to remember Allah in all of his affairs.
