Narrated Abu Ghalib: Abu Umamah saw heads (of the Khawarij) hanging on the streets of Damascus. He said: 'The dogs of the Fire and the worst dead people under the canopy of the heavens. The best dead men are those whom these have killed.' He then recited: On the Day when some faces will become white and some faces will become black... (3:106) until the end of the Ayah. I said to Abu Umamah: 'Did you hear it from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)?' He said: 'If I had not heard it but one time, or two times, or three times, or four times - until he reached seven - I would not have narrated it to you.'

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ صَبِيحٍ، وَحَمَّادُ ابْنُ سلمة، عَنْ أَبِي غَالِبٍ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ رَأَى أَبُو أُمَامَةَ رُءُوسًا مَنْصُوبَةً عَلَى دَرَجِ مَسْجِدِ دِمَشْقَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ:‏‏‏‏ كِلَابُ النَّارِ شَرُّ قَتْلَى تَحْتَ أَدِيمِ السَّمَاءِ خَيْرُ قَتْلَى مَنْ قَتَلُوهُ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ:‏‏‏‏ يَوْمَ تَبْيَضُّ وُجُوهٌ وَتَسْوَدُّ وُجُوهٌ سورة آل عمران آية 106 إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْتُ لِأَبِي أُمَامَةَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَوْ لَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ إِلَّا مَرَّةً أَوْ مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا أَوْ أَرْبَعًا حَتَّى عَدَّ سَبْعًا مَا حَدَّثْتُكُمُوهُ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو غَالِبٍ يُقَالُ اسْمُهُ حَزَوَّرٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيُّ اسْمُهُ صُدَيُّ بْنُ عَجْلَانَ وَهُوَ سَيِّدُ بَاهِلَةَ.

ابوغالب کہتے ہیں کہ ابوامامہ رضی الله عنہ نے دمشق کی مسجد کی سیڑھیوں پر ( حروراء کے مقتول خوارج کے ) سر لٹکتے ہوئے دیکھے، تو کہا: یہ جہنم کے کتے ہیں، آسمان کے سایہ تلے بدترین مقتول ہیں جب کہ بہترین مقتول وہ ہیں جنہیں انہوں نے قتل کیا ہے، پھر انہوں نے یہ آیت «يوم تبيض وجوه وتسود وجوه» ۱؎ پڑھی میں نے ابوامامہ رضی الله عنہ سے کہا: کیا آپ نے اسے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنا ہے؟ کہا: میں نے اسے اگر ایک بار یا دو بار یا تین بار یا چار بار یہاں تک انہوں نے سات بار گنا، نہ سنا ہوتا تو تم لوگوں سے میں اسے نہ بیان کرتا۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن ہے، ۲- ابوغالب کے بارے میں کہا جاتا ہے کہ ان کا نام حزور ہے۔ ۳- اور ابوامامہ باہلی رضی الله عنہ کا نام صدی بن عجلان ہے، وہ قبیلہ باہلہ کے سردار تھے۔

Narrated Bahz bin Hakim: from his father, from his grandfather that he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying about Allah, Most High saying: 'You are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind... (3:110) He said: 'You are the completion of seventy nations, you are the best of them, and the most honorable of them to Allah.

Narrated Anas: On the Day of Uhud, the incisors of the Prophet (ﷺ) were broken, and he had a facial wound in the area of the forehead, such that the blood flowed over his face. He said: 'How can a people that do this to their Prophet succeed, while he is calling them to Allah?' So the following was revealed: Not for you is the decision; whether He turns in mercy towards them or punished them... (3:128) until its end.

Narrated Anas: The face of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was wounded, his incisors were broken, and he was struck by an arrow on his shoulder. While blood was flowing over his face and he was wiping it, he said: 'How can a nation succeed while they are doing this to their Prophet and he is calling them to Allah?' So Allah, Most High revealed: Not for you is the decision; whether He turns in mercy towards them or punishes them; verily they are the wrongdoers (3:128).

Narrated Salim bin 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: from his father: On the Day of Uhud, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'O Allah! Curse Abu Sufyan! O Allah! Curse Al-Harith bin Hisham! O Allah! Curse Safwan bin Umayyah!' He said: 'So the following was revealed: Not for you is the decision; whether He turns in mercy towards them [or punishes them] (3:128).' So Allah turned in mercy towards them, they accepted Islam and their (adherence to) Islam was good.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was supplicating against four people, so Allah, Blessed and Most High, revealed: Not for you is the decision; whether He turns in mercy towards them or punishes them; verily they are the wrongdoers (3:128). So Allah guided them to Islam.

Narrated Asma bin Al-Hakam Al-Farazi: I heard 'Ali saying: 'Indeed I am a man who, when I hear a Hadith from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), then Allah causes me to benefit from it as much as He wills for me to benefit from it. When a man among his Companions narrates to me I ask him to swear an oath to me, about it, and when he swears an oath to me I trust him. And Abu Bakr narrated to me - and Abu Bakr told the truth - he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: 'There is no man who commits a sin, then stands for purification, then performs Salat, then seeks forgiveness from Allah, except that Allah forgives him.' Then he recites this Ayah: Those who, when they have committed Fahishah or wronged themselves with evil, remember Allah... (3:135) until the end of the Ayah.
