Narrated Jundab bin 'Abdullah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Whoever says (something) about the Qur'an according to his own opinion and he is correct, yet he has committed a mistake.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَبَّانُ بْنُ هِلَالٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سُهَيْلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي حَزْمٍ أَخُو حَزْمٍ الْقُطَعِيِّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيُّ، عَنْ جُنْدَبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ قَالَ فِي الْقُرْآنِ بِرَأْيِهِ فَأَصَابَ فَقَدْ أَخْطَأَ ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ تَكَلَّمَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ فِي سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي حَزْمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَكَذَا رُوِيَ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَغَيْرِهِمْ أَنَّهُمْ شَدَّدُوا فِي هَذَا فِي أَنْ يُفَسَّرَ الْقُرْآنُ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَمَّا الَّذِي رُوِيَ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَتَادَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَغَيْرِهِمَا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ أَنَّهُمْ فَسَّرُوا الْقُرْآنَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَيْسَ الظَّنُّ بِهِمْ أَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا فِي الْقُرْآنِ أَوْ فَسَّرُوهُ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ أَوْ مِنْ قِبَلِ أَنْفُسِهِمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْهُمْ مَا يَدُلُّ عَلَى مَا قُلْنَا أَنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَقُولُوا مِنْ قِبَلِ أَنْفُسِهِمْ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ.

جندب بن عبداللہ رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جس نے قرآن کی تفسیر اپنی رائے ( اور اپنی صواب دید ) سے کی، اور بات صحیح و درست نکل بھی گئی تو بھی اس نے غلطی کی“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث غریب ہے، ۲- بعض محدثین نے سہیل بن ابی حزم کے بارے کلام کیا ہے، ۳- اسی طرح بعض اہل علم صحابہ اور دوسروں سے مروی ہے کہ انہوں نے سختی سے اس بات سے منع کیا ہے کہ قرآن کی تفسیر بغیر علم کے کی جائے، لیکن مجاہد، قتادہ اور ان دونوں کے علاوہ بعض اہل علم کے بارے میں جو یہ بات بیان کی جاتی ہے کہ انہوں نے قرآن کی تفسیر ( بغیر علم کے ) کی ہے تو یہ کہنا درست نہیں، ایسے ( ستودہ صفات ) لوگوں کے بارے میں یہ بدگمانی نہیں کی جا سکتی کہ انہوں نے قرآن کے بارے میں جو کچھ کہا ہے یا انہوں نے قرآن کی جو تفسیر کی ہے یہ بغیر علم کے یا اپنے جی سے کی ہے، ۴- ان ائمہ سے ایسی باتیں مروی ہیں جو ہمارے اس قول کو تقویت دیتی ہیں کہ انہوں نے کوئی بات بغیر علم کے اپنی جانب سے نہیں کہی ہیں۔

Narrated 'Adiyy bin Hatim: that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: The Jews are those who Allah is wrath with, and the Christians have strayed.

Narrated Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Indeed Allah Most High created Adam from a handful that He took from all of the earth. So the children of Adam come in according with the earth, some of them come red, and white and black, and between that, and the thin, the thick, the filthy, and the clean.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, regarding Allah's saying: Enter the gate in prostration (2:58): They entered dragging their behinds meaning they distorted it, and with this chain, from the Prophet (ﷺ): But those who did wrong changed the word from that which had been told to them for another (2:59) - They said: Habbah (a seed) in Sha'irah (in barely).

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amir bin Rabi'ah: from his father who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on a journey on a very dark night and we did not know where the Qiblah was. So each man among us prayed in his own direction. In the morning when we mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), then the following was revealed: So wherever you turn, there is the Face of Allah. (2:115)

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would perform voluntary Salat upon his mount facing whichever direction he was headed, while he was coming from Makkah to Al-Madinah. Then Ibn 'Umar recited: To Allah belong both the east and the west. (2:115) And Ibn 'Umar said: It was about this that the Ayah was revealed.
