Narrated Anas: that the Prophet (ﷺ) entered Makkah during 'Umratil-Qada and 'Abdullah bin Rawahah was walking in front of him reciting verses of poetry. O tribes of disbelievers get out of his way - today we will strike you about its revelation; a strike that removes the heads from the shoulders - and makes the friend not concerned about his friend. 'Umar said to him: O Ibn Rawahah! Before the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and in the sanctuary of Allah you utter poetry? the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Leave him O 'Umar! For it is quicker upon them than the raining arrow.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاق بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ مَكَّةَ فِي عُمْرَةِ الْقَضَاءِ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ رَوَاحَةَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ يَمْشِي وَهُوَ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ خَلُّوا بَنِي الْكُفَّارِ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ الْيَوْمَ نَضْرِبْكُمْ عَلَى تَنْزِيلِهِ ضَرْبًا يُزِيلُ الْهَامَ عَنْ مَقِيلِهِ وَيُذْهِلُ الْخَلِيلَ عَنْ خَلِيلِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا ابْنَ رَوَاحَةَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَفِي حَرَمِ اللَّهِ تَقُولُ الشِّعْرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ خَلِّ عَنْهُ يَا عُمَرُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَهِيَ أَسْرَعُ فِيهِمْ مِنْ نَضْحِ النَّبْلِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رَوَى عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ أَيْضًا عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، نَحْوَ هَذَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرُوِيَ فِي غَيْرِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ مَكَّةَ فِي عُمْرَةِ الْقَضَاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَكَعْبُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهَذَا أَصَحُّ عِنْدَ بَعْضِ أَهْلِ الْحَدِيثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لِأَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ رَوَاحَةَ قُتِلَ يَوْمَ مُؤْتَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنَّمَا كَانَتْ عُمْرَةُ الْقَضَاءِ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ.

انس رضی الله عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم عمرۃ القضاء کے سال مکہ میں داخل ہوئے اور عبداللہ بن رواحہ آپ کے آگے یہ اشعار پڑھتے ہوئے چل رہے تھے۔ «خلوا بني الكفار عن سبيله اليوم نضربكم على تنزيله ضربا يزيل الهام عن مقيله ويذهل الخليل عن خليله» ”اے کفار کی اولاد! اس کے ( یعنی محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ) راستے سے ہٹ جاؤ، آج کے دن ہم تمہیں ایسی مار ماریں گے جو کھوپڑی کو گردنوں سے جدا کر دے گی، ایسی مار ماریں گے جو دوست کو دوست سے غافل کر دے گی“ عمر رضی الله عنہ نے ان سے کہا: ابن رواحہ! تم رسول اللہ کے سامنے اور اللہ کے حرم میں شعر پڑھتے ہو؟ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ان سے فرمایا: ”انہیں کہنے دو، عمر! یہ اشعار ان ( کفار و مشرکین ) پر تیر برسانے سے بھی زیادہ زود اثر ہیں ( یہ انہیں بوکھلا کر رکھ دیں گے ) “۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث اس سند سے حسن صحیح غریب ہے، ۲- عبدالرزاق نے یہ حدیث معمر سے اور معمر نے زہری کے واسطہ سے انس سے اسی طرح روایت کی ہے، ۳- اس حدیث کے علاوہ دوسری حدیث میں مروی ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم عمرۃ القضاء کے موقع پر مکہ میں داخل ہوئے ( اس وقت ) کعب بن مالک آپ کے ساتھ آپ کے سامنے موجود تھے۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: بعض محدثین کے نزدیک یہ زیادہ صحیح ہے اس لیے کہ عبداللہ بن رواحہ جنگ موتہ میں مارے گئے ہیں۔ اور عمرۃ القضاء اس کے بعد ہوا ہے ۱؎۔

Narrated Al-Miqdam bin Shuraih: from his father, that 'Aishah was asked: Did the Prophet (ﷺ) used to say any poetry? She said: He would say parables with the poetry of Ibn Rawahah, saying: 'News shall come to you from where you did not expect it.'
