Translation

Narrated Anas bin Malik: that two men sneezed in the presence of the Prophet (ﷺ); he responded to one of them and did not respond to the other. The one who was not responded to said: O Messenger of Allah! You responded to this person and did not respond to me?' So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: He praised Allah while you did not praise Him.

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّ رَجُلَيْنِ عَطَسَا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَشَمَّتَ أَحَدَهُمَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَمْ يُشَمِّتِ الْآخَرَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ الَّذِي لَمْ يُشَمِّتْهُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏شَمَّتَّ هَذَا وَلَمْ تُشَمِّتْنِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّهُ حَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَإِنَّكَ لَمْ تَحْمَدِ اللَّهَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.

انس بن مالک رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس دو آدمیوں کو چھینک آئی، آپ نے ایک کی چھینک پر «يرحمك الله» کہہ کر دعا دی اور دوسرے کی چھینک کا آپ نے جواب نہیں دیا، تو جس کی چھینک کا آپ نے جواب نہ دیا تھا اس نے کہا: اللہ کے رسول! آپ نے اس کی چھینک پر «یرحمک اللہ» کہہ کر دعا دی اور میری چھینک پر آپ نے مجھے یہ دعا نہیں دی؟ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ” ( چھینک آئی تو ) اس نے اللہ کی حمد بیان کی اور ( تجھے چھینک آئی تو ) تم نے اس کی حمد نہ کی ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- یہ حدیث ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ کے واسطہ سے بھی نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے آئی ہے۔

Narrated Iyas bin Salamah: from his father: A man sneezed in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) while I was present, so the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Yarhamukallah (May Allah have mercy upon you).' Then he sneezed a second and third time. So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: This man is suffering from a cold.'

Narrated 'Umar bin Ishaq bin Abi Talhah: from his mother, from her father, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Reply three times to the sneezing person. If he (sneezes) more, then if you wish reply and if you do not then do not.'

Narrated Abu Hurairah: that when the Prophet (ﷺ) would sneeze, he would cover his face with his hand or with his garment, and muffle the sound with it.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The sneeze is from Allah and the yawn is from Ash-Shaitan. So when one of you yawns let him cover his mouth with his hand. For when he says 'Ah, Ah' Ash-Shaitan laughs from inside his opening. [And indeed Allah loves the sneeze and He dislikes the Yawn, so when a man says Ah, Ah when yawning, indeed Ash-Shaitan laughs from inside his opening. ]

Narrated Abu Hurairah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Indeed Allah loves sneezing and He dislikes the yawn. So when one of you sneezes and says 'Al-Hamdulillah (All praise is due to Allah),' then it is a right due from every one who hears him to say: 'Yarhamukallah (May Allah have mercy upon you)' As for yawning then when one of you yawns let him suppress it as much as possible and not say: Hah Hah' for that is only from Ash-Shaitan laughing at him.

Narrated Abu Yaqzan: from 'Adi - and he is Ibn Thabit - from his father, from his grandfather - [from the Prophet (ﷺ)]: Sneezing, dozing and yawning during Salat, and menstruation, regurgitation and nosebleeds are from Ash-Shaitan.
