Translation

Narrated Abu Hurairah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The sneeze is from Allah and the yawn is from Ash-Shaitan. So when one of you yawns let him cover his mouth with his hand. For when he says 'Ah, Ah' Ash-Shaitan laughs from inside his opening. [And indeed Allah loves the sneeze and He dislikes the Yawn, so when a man says Ah, Ah when yawning, indeed Ash-Shaitan laughs from inside his opening. ]

حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ، عَنِ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ الْعُطَاسُ مِنَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالتَّثَاؤُبُ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِذَا تَثَاءَبَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَضَعْ يَدَهُ عَلَى فِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ آهْ آهْ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَضْحَكُ مِنْ جَوْفِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْعُطَاسَ وَيَكْرَهُ التَّثَاؤُبَ فَإِذَا قَالَ الرَّجُلُ:‏‏‏‏ آهْ آهْ إِذَا تَثَاءَبَ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَضْحَكُ فِي جَوْفِهِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”چھینکنا اللہ کی جانب سے ہے اور جمائی شیطان کی جانب سے ہے۔ جب کسی کو جمائی آئے تو اسے چاہیئے کہ جمائی آتے وقت اپنا ہاتھ منہ پر رکھ لے، اور جب جمائی لینے والا آہ، آہ کرتا ہے تو شیطان جمائی لینے والے کے پیٹ میں گھس کر ہنستا ہے۔ اور بیشک اللہ چھینک کو پسند کرتا ہے اور جمائی لینے کو ناپسند کرتا ہے۔ تو ( جان لو ) کہ آدمی جب جمائی کے وقت آہ آہ کی آواز نکالتا ہے تو اس وقت شیطان اس کے پیٹ کے اندر گھس کر ہنستا ہے“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے۔

Narrated Abu Hurairah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Indeed Allah loves sneezing and He dislikes the yawn. So when one of you sneezes and says 'Al-Hamdulillah (All praise is due to Allah),' then it is a right due from every one who hears him to say: 'Yarhamukallah (May Allah have mercy upon you)' As for yawning then when one of you yawns let him suppress it as much as possible and not say: Hah Hah' for that is only from Ash-Shaitan laughing at him.

Narrated Abu Yaqzan: from 'Adi - and he is Ibn Thabit - from his father, from his grandfather - [from the Prophet (ﷺ)]: Sneezing, dozing and yawning during Salat, and menstruation, regurgitation and nosebleeds are from Ash-Shaitan.
