Salamah bin Qais narrated that : Allah's Messenger said: When you perform Wudu then sniff water in the nose and blow it out, and when you use small stones (to remove filth) then make it odd (numbered).

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَجَرِيرٌ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ يَسَافٍ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا تَوَضَّأْتَ فَانْتَثِرْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا اسْتَجْمَرْتَ فَأَوْتِرْ . قال:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ عُثْمَانَ،‏‏‏‏ وَلَقِيطِ بْنِ صَبِرَةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَالْمِقْدَامِ بْنِ مَعْدِي كَرِبَ،‏‏‏‏ وَوَائِلِ بْنِ حُجْرٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ. قال أبو عيسى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَاخْتَلَفَ أَهْلُ الْعِلْمِ فِيمَنْ تَرَكَ الْمَضْمَضَةَ وَالِاسْتِنْشَاقَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَتْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْهُمْ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا تَرَكَهُمَا فِي الْوُضُوءِ حَتَّى صَلَّى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَعَادَ الصَّلَاةَ وَرَأَوْا ذَلِكَ فِي الْوُضُوءِ وَالْجَنَابَةِ سَوَاءً وَبِهِ. يَقُولُ ابْنُ أَبِي لَيْلَى،‏‏‏‏ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَحْمَدُ،‏‏‏‏ وَإِسْحَاق،‏‏‏‏ وقَالَ أَحْمَدُ:‏‏‏‏ الِاسْتِنْشَاقُ أَوْكَدُ مِنَ الْمَضْمَضَةِ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ وَقَالَتْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ:‏‏‏‏ يُعِيدُ فِي الْجَنَابَةِ وَلَا يُعِيدُ فِي الْوُضُوءِ،‏‏‏‏ وَهُوَ قَوْلُ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ وَبَعْضِ أَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَتْ طَائِفَةٌ:‏‏‏‏ لَا يُعِيدُ فِي الْوُضُوءِ وَلَا فِي الْجَنَابَةِ لِأَنَّهُمَا سُنَّةٌ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَا تَجِبُ الْإِعَادَةُ عَلَى مَنْ تَرَكَهُمَا فِي الْوُضُوءِ وَلَا فِي الْجَنَابَةِ،‏‏‏‏ وَهُوَ قَوْلُ مَالِكٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَالشَّافِعِيِّ فِي آخِرَةٍ.

سلمہ بن قیس رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی الله علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جب تم وضو کرو تو ناک جھاڑو اور جب ڈھیلے سے استنجاء کرو تو طاق ڈھیلے لو“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- اس باب میں عثمان، لقیط بن صبرہ، ابن عباس، مقدام بن معدیکرب، وائل بن حجر اور ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں، ۲- سلمہ بن قیس والی حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۳- جو کلی نہ کرے اور ناک میں پانی نہ چڑھائے اس کے بارے میں اہل علم میں اختلاف ہے: ایک گروہ کا کہنا ہے کہ جب کوئی ان دونوں چیزوں کو وضو میں چھوڑ دے اور نماز پڑھ لے تو وہ نماز کو لوٹائے ۱؎ ان لوگوں کی رائے ہے کہ وضو اور جنابت دونوں میں یہ حکم یکساں ہے، ابن ابی لیلیٰ، عبداللہ بن مبارک، احمد اور اسحاق بن راہویہ یہی کہتے ہیں، امام احمد ( مزید ) کہتے ہیں کہ ناک میں پانی چڑھانا کلی کرنے سے زیادہ تاکیدی حکم ہے، اور اہل علم کی ایک جماعت کہتی ہے کہ جنابت میں کلی نہ کرنے اور ناک نہ جھاڑنے کی صورت میں نماز لوٹائے اور وضو میں نہ لوٹائے ۲؎ یہ سفیان ثوری اور بعض اہل کوفہ کا قول ہے، ایک گروہ کا کہنا ہے کہ نہ وضو میں لوٹائے اور نہ جنابت میں کیونکہ یہ دونوں چیزیں مسنون ہیں، تو جو انہیں وضو اور جنابت میں چھوڑ دے اس پر نماز لوٹانا واجب نہیں، یہ مالک اور شافعی کا آخری قول ہے ۳؎۔

Hassan bin Bilal said: 1 saw Ammar bin Yasir performing Wudu, so he went through his beard (with his hand). It was said to him - or he said - 1 said: 'You go through your beard?' He said: 'And what is there to prevent me? Indeed I saw Allah's Messenger going through his beard.'

(In another narration) Ammar narrated : the same from the Prophet.

Uthman bin Affan narrated that : the Prophet would go through his beard.

Abdullah bin Zaid narrated that: Allah's Messenger wiped over his head with his hands, going over the front with them and the rear. He began with the front of his head until they went to the nape of his neck. Then he brought them back again to the place where he began. Then he washed his feet.

Ar-Rubay' bint Mu'awwidh bin Afra' narrated: The Prophet wiped his head two times: He began with the rear of his head, then with the front of his head and with both of his ears, outside and Inside of them.
