Abdullah narrated: The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever has a speck of pride (arrogance) in his heart, shall not be admitted into Paradise. And whoever has a speck of faith in his heart, shall not be admitted in to the Fire.' He said: So a man said to him: 'I like for my clothes to be nice, and my sandals to be nice?' So he said: 'Indeed Allah loves beauty. But pride is refusing the truth and belittling the people.'

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبَانَ بْنِ تَغْلِبٍ، عَنْ فُضَيْلِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ ذَرَّةٍ مِنْ كِبْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا يَدْخُلُ النَّارَ يَعْنِي مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ ذَرَّةٍ مِنْ إِيمَانٍ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّهُ يُعْجِبُنِي أَنْ يَكُونَ ثَوْبِي حَسَنًا وَنَعْلِي حَسَنًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْجَمَالَ وَلَكِنَّ الْكِبْرَ مَنْ بَطَرَ الْحَقَّ وَغَمَصَ النَّاسَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ غَرِيبٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ فِي تَفْسِيرِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ:‏‏‏‏ لَا يَدْخُلُ النَّارَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ ذَرَّةٍ مِنْ إِيمَانٍ إِنَّمَا مَعْنَاهُ:‏‏‏‏ لَا يُخَلَّدُ فِي النَّارِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهَكَذَا رُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَخْرُجُ مِنَ النَّارِ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ ذَرَّةٍ مِنْ إِيمَانٍ وَقَدْ فَسَّرَ غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ مِنَ التَّابِعِينَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ مَنْ تُدْخِلِ النَّارَ فَقَدْ أَخْزَيْتَهُ سورة آل عمران آية 192 فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ تُخَلِّدُ فِي النَّارِ فَقَدْ أَخْزَيْتَهُ.

عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی الله عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جنت میں وہ شخص داخل نہیں ہو گا جس کے دل میں رائی کے برابر بھی تکبر ( گھمنڈ ) ہو، اور جہنم میں داخل نہیں ہو گا یعنی وہ شخص جس کے دل میں رائی کے دانہ کے برابر بھی ایمان ہو“ ۱؎۔ ایک آدمی نے آپ سے عرض کیا: میں یہ پسند کرتا ہوں کہ میرے کپڑے اور جوتے اچھے ہوں؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”بیشک اللہ تعالیٰ جمال ( خوبصورتی ) کو پسند کرتا ہے، لیکن تکبر اس شخص کے اندر ہے جو حق کونہ مانے اور لوگوں کو حقیر اور کم تر سمجھے“۔ بعض اہل علم اس حدیث: «ولا يدخل النار يعني من كان في قلبه مثقال ذرة من إيمان» کی تفسیر میں کہتے ہیں کہ اس کا مفہوم یہ ہے کہ جس کے دل میں ذرہ برابر بھی ایمان ہو وہ جہنم میں ہمیشہ نہیں رہے گا، ابو سعید خدری رضی الله عنہ سے مروی ہے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جس کے دل میں ذرہ برابر بھی ایمان ہو گا وہ جہنم سے بالآخر ضرور نکلے گا“، کئی تابعین نے اس آیت «ربنا إنك من تدخل النار فقد أخزيته» ( سورۃ آل عمران: ۱۹۲ ) کی تفسیر بیان کرتے ہوئے کہا ہے: اے میرے رب! تو نے جس کو جہنم میں ہمیشہ کے لیے ڈال دیا اس کو ذلیل و رسوا کر دیا۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث حسن صحیح غریب ہے۔

Abu Ad-Dardh narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: Nothing is placed on the Scale that is heavier than good character. Indeed the person with good character will have attained the rank of the person of fasting and prayer.
