Ali narrated: I asked the Prophet about Al-Madhi. He said: For Al-Madhi is Wudu, and for AI-Mani is Ghusl.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو السَّوَّاقُ الْبَلْخِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ. ح قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وحَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ الْجُعْفِيُّ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الْمَذْيِ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مِنَ الْمَذْيِ الْوُضُوءُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمِنَ الْمَنِيِّ الْغُسْلُ . قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ الْمِقْدَادِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ،‏‏‏‏ وَأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ غَيْرِ وَجْهٍ:‏‏‏‏ مِنَ الْمَذْيِ الْوُضُوءُ وَمِنَ الْمَنِيِّ الْغُسْلُ،‏‏‏‏ وَهُوَ قَوْلُ عَامَّةِ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالتَّابِعِينَ وَمَنْ بَعْدَهُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَبِهِ يَقُولُ سُفْيَانُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالشَّافِعِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَحْمَدُ،‏‏‏‏ وَإِسْحَاق.

علی رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے نبی اکرم صلی الله علیہ وسلم سے مذی ۱؎ کے بارے میں پوچھا تو آپ نے فرمایا: ”مذی سے وضو ہے اور منی سے غسل“ ۲؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- اس باب میں مقداد بن اسود اور ابی بن کعب رضی الله عنہما سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں، ۳- علی بن ابی طالب رضی الله عنہ سے کئی سندوں سے مرفوعاً مروی ہے کہ ”مذی سے وضو ہے، اور منی سے غسل“، ۴- صحابہ کرام اور تابعین میں سے اکثر اہل علم کا یہی قول ہے، اور سفیان، شافعی، احمد اور اسحاق بن راہویہ بھی یہی کہتے ہیں۔

Sahl bin Hunaif said: I suffered from a severe and troubling case of Al-Madhi. I was performing Ghusl often because of it. So I mentioned that to Allah's Messenger and asked him about it. He said: You only need to perform Wudu for that. I said: O Messenger of Allah! How about when it gets on my clothes? He said: It is sufficient for you to take a handful of water and sprinkle it n your garment wherever you see that it has touched it.

Hammam bin AI-Harith narrated: Aishah had a guest to whom she lent a yellow wrap for him to sleep in. He had a wet dream, and was too embarrassed to send it to her while the traces of the wet dream were present on it. So he submerged it (washing it) in water, then he sent it to her. Aishah said, Why did he ruin our garment? It would have been sufficient for him to scrape it off with his fingers. Sometimes I would scrape it off of the garment of Allah's Messenger with my fingers.
