Jabir bin Abdullah narrated: We practiced Azl while the Qur'an was being revealed.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كُنَّا نَعْزِلُ وَالْقُرْآنُ يَنْزِلُ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ جَابِرٍ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْهُ مِنْ غَيْرِ وَجْهٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رَخَّصَ قَوْمٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَغَيْرِهِمْ فِي الْعَزْلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وقَالَ مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ:‏‏‏‏ تُسْتَأْمَرُ الْحُرَّةُ فِي الْعَزْلِ وَلَا تُسْتَأْمَرُ الْأَمَةُ.

جابر بن عبداللہ رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ ہم عزل کرتے تھے اور قرآن اتر رہا تھا ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- جابر رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- یہ حدیث اور بھی کئی طرق سے ان سے مروی ہے، ۳- صحابہ کرام وغیرہم میں سے اہل علم کی ایک جماعت نے عزل کی اجازت دی ہے۔ مالک بن انس کا قول ہے کہ آزاد عورت سے عزل کی اجازت لی جائے گی اور لونڈی سے اجازت لینے کی ضرورت نہیں۔

Abu Sa'eed narrated: Azl was mentined before the Messenger of Allah and he said: 'Why would one of you do that?'

Abu Qilabah narrated from Anas bin Malik, : He (Abu Qilabah) said: If I wish, I could say: 'The Messenger of Allah said' but he said: The Sunnah when a man married a virgin after he already has a wife, is that he stays with her seven (nights). And when he married a matron when he already has a wife, he stays with her three (nights).

Aishah narrated that: The Prophet would divide (his time) equally between his wives and said: O Allah! This is my division in what I have control over, so do not punish me for what You have control over which I do not have control over.
