Ash-Shaibani narrated that: Ash-Sha'bi said: I was informed by one who saw the Prophet: He (pbuh) saw a solitary grave, s he lined his Companions (behind him) to pray over it. It was said to him (Ash-Sha'bi): Who informed you? He said: Ibn Abbas.

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّيْبَانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا الشَّعْبِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنِي مَنْ رَأَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَرَأَى قَبْرًا مُنْتَبِذًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَصَفَّ أَصْحَابَهُ خَلْفَهُ فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقِيلَ لَهُ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ أَخْبَرَكَهُ ؟ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ. قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَنَسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَبُرَيْدَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيَزِيدَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعَامِرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبِي قَتَادَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَسَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالْعَمَلُ عَلَى هَذَا عِنْدَ أَكْثَرِ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَغَيْرِهِمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ قَوْلُ:‏‏‏‏ الشَّافِعِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَحْمَدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِسْحَاق، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وقَالَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ:‏‏‏‏ لَا يُصَلَّى عَلَى الْقَبْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ قَوْلُ:‏‏‏‏ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا دُفِنَ الْمَيِّتُ وَلَمْ يُصَلَّ عَلَيْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏صُلِّيَ عَلَى الْقَبْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَأَى ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ الصَّلَاةَ عَلَى الْقَبْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وقَالَ أَحْمَدُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِسْحَاق:‏‏‏‏ يُصَلَّى عَلَى الْقَبْرِ إِلَى شَهْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَا:‏‏‏‏ أَكْثَرُ مَا سَمِعْنَا عَنْ ابْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى عَلَى قَبْرِ أُمِّ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ بَعْدَ شَهْرٍ .

شعبی کا بیان ہے کہ مجھے ایک ایسے شخص نے خبر دی ہے جس نے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو دیکھا کہ آپ نے ایک قبر الگ تھلگ دیکھی تو اپنے پیچھے صحابہ کی صف بندی کی اور اس کی نماز جنازہ پڑھائی۔ شعبی سے پوچھا گیا کہ آپ کو یہ خبر کس نے دی۔ تو انہوں نے کہا: ابن عباس رضی الله عنہما نے۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- ابن عباس کی حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- اس باب میں انس، بریدہ، یزید بن ثابت، ابوہریرہ، عامر بن ربیعہ، ابوقتادہ اور سہل بن حنیف سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں، ۳- صحابہ کرام وغیرہم میں سے اکثر اہل علم کا اسی پر عمل ہے۔ یہی شافعی، احمد اور اسحاق بن راہویہ کا بھی قول ہے، ۴- بعض اہل علم کہتے ہیں کہ قبر پر نماز پڑھی جائے گی ۱؎ یہ مالک بن انس کا قول ہے، ۵ - عبداللہ بن مبارک کہتے ہیں کہ جب میت کو دفن کر دیا جائے اور اس کی نماز جنازہ نہ پڑھی گئی ہو تو اس کی نماز جنازہ قبر پر پڑھی جائے گی، ۶- ابن مبارک قبر پر نماز ( جنازہ ) پڑھنے کے قائل ہیں، ۷- احمد اور اسحاق بن راہویہ کہتے ہیں: قبر پر نماز ایک ماہ تک پڑھی جا سکتی ہے۔ یہ کہتے ہیں کہ ہم نے اکثر سنا ہے سعید بن مسیب سے روایت ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے سعد بن عبادہ کی والدہ کی نماز جنازہ ایک ماہ کے بعد قبر پر پڑھی۔

Abu Hurairah narrated that: The Messenger of Allah said: Whoever performs the funeral prayer then he will get a reward equal to a Qirat. Whoever follows it until it is buried then he will get a reward equal to two Qirat, one of them, or the least of them, is similar to Uhud (mountain). This was mentioned to Ibn Umar, so he sent a message to Aishah to ask her about that, and she said: Abu Hurairah has told the truth. So Ibn Umar said: We have missed many Qirat.
