It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘The Imam has been appointed to be followed, so when he says Allahu Akbar, then say Allahu Akbar, when he recites, then listen attentively; when he says: Not (the way) of those who earned Your anger, nor of those who went astray,[1:7] then say Amin; when he bows then bow; when he says Sami’ Allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears those who praise Him), then say Allahumma Rabbana wa lakal-hamd (O Allah, our Lord, to You is the praise);” when he prostrates then prostrate; and if he prays sitting down then all of you pray sitting down.’”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الْأَحْمَرُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ عَجْلَانِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الْإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِذَا كَبَّرَ فَكَبِّرُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا قَرَأَ فَأَنْصِتُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلا الضَّالِّينَ سورة الفاتحة آية 7 فَقُولُوا:‏‏‏‏ آمِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا رَكَعَ فَارْكَعُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُولُوا:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا سَجَدَ فَاسْجُدُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا صَلَّى جَالِسًا فَصَلُّوا جُلُوسًا أَجْمَعِينَ .

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: امام اس لیے ہے کہ اس کی اقتداء کی جائے، لہٰذا جب وہ «ألله أكبر» کہے تو تم بھی«ألله أكبر» کہو، اور جب قراءت کرے تو خاموشی سے اس کو سنو ۱؎، اور «غير المغضوب عليهم ولا الضالين» کہے تو آمین کہو، اور جب رکوع کرے تو تم بھی رکوع کرو، اور جب «سمع الله لمن حمده» کہے تو «اللهم ربنا ولك الحمد» کہو، اور جب سجدہ کرے تو تم بھی سجدہ کرو، اور جب بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھائے تو تم سب بھی بیٹھ کر پڑھو ۲؎۔

It was narrated that Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘When the Imam recites, then listen attentively, and if he is sitting (in the prayer) then the first remembrance that anyone of you recites should be the Tashahhud.’”

It was narrated that Ibn Ukaimah said: “I heard Abu Hurairah say: ‘The Prophet (ﷺ) led his Companions in a prayer; we think it was the Subh. He said: “Did anyone among you recite?” A man said: “I did.” He said: “I was saying to myself, what is wrong with me that someone is fighting to wrest the Qur’an from me?”

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) led us in prayer,” and he mentioned a similar report, and added to it, and he said: “And after that they were quiet in the prayers in which the Imam recites aloud.”

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “When the reciter says Amin, then say Amin, for the angels say Amin, and if a person’s Amin coincides with the Amin of the angels, his previous sins will be forgiven.”
