Translation

It was narrated from Hamnah bint Jahsh that: She experienced prolonged non-menstrual bleeding during the time of the Messenger of Allah. She came to the Messenger of Allah and said: I am suffering prolonged and painful bleeding. He said: Fill it with a pad of cloth. She said: It is worse than that, it is flowing copiously. He said: Then bind yourself with a cloth and observe your menses for six or seven days, in the knowledge of Allah, then have a bath and perform prayer and fast for twenty-three or twenty-four days. Delay Zuhr and bring 'Asr forward, and take (one) bath for both, and delay Maghrib and bring 'Isha' forward, and have (one) bath for both. That is what I prefer of the two matters.'

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنْبَأَنَا شَرِيكٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْإِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَمِّهِ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أُمِّهِ حَمْنَةَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهَا اسْتُحِيضَتْ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي اسْتُحِضْتُ حَيْضَةً مُنْكَرَةً شَدِيدَةً، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ لَهَا:‏‏‏‏ احْتَشِي كُرْسُفًا ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ لَهُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّهُ أَشَدُّ مِنْ ذَلِكَ إِنِّي أَثُجُّ ثَجًّا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ تَلَجَّمِي وَتَحَيَّضِي فِي كُلِّ شَهْرٍ فِي عِلْمِ اللَّهِ سِتَّةَ أَيَّامٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ سَبْعَةَ أَيَّامٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ اغْتَسِلِي غُسْلًا فَصَلِّي وَصُومِي ثَلَاثَةً وَعِشْرِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ أَرْبَعَةً وَعِشْرِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَخِّرِي الظُّهْرَ وَقَدِّمِي الْعَصْرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَاغْتَسِلِي لَهُمَا غُسْلًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَخِّرِي الْمَغْرِبَ وَعَجِّلِي الْعِشَاءَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَاغْتَسِلِي لَهُمَا غُسْلًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهَذَا أَحَبُّ الْأَمْرَيْنِ إِلَيَّ .

حمنہ بنت جحش رضی اللہ عنہا سے روایت ہے کہ انہیں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے عہد میں استحاضہ ہو گیا تو وہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آئیں، اور عرض کیا: مجھے بری طرح سے سخت استحاضہ ہو گیا ہے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ان سے فرمایا: شرمگاہ کے اندر تھوڑی روئی رکھ لو ، وہ بولیں: وہ اس سے زیادہ سخت ہے، بہت تیز بہہ رہا ہے، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ایک لنگوٹ کی طرح کس لو، اور اللہ کے علم کے موافق ہر مہینہ میں چھ یا سات روز حیض کے شمار کر لو، پھر غسل کر کے تیئس یا چوبیس دن تک نماز پڑھو اور روزہ رکھو، ( آسانی کے لیے ) ظہر میں دیر اور عصر میں جلدی کر کے دونوں نمازوں کے لیے ایک غسل کر لو، اسی طرح مغرب میں دیر اور عشاء میں جلدی کر کے دونوں کے لیے ایک غسل کر لو، ۱؎ اور مجھے ان دونوں طریقوں میں سے یہ زیادہ پسند ہے ۲؎۔

It was narrated that Umm Qais bint Mihsan said: I asked the Messenger of Allah about menstrual blood that gets on clothing. He said, 'Wash it with water and lote leaves, and rub it, even with a piece of stick.'

It was narrated that Asma' bint Abi Bakr said: The Messenger of Allah was asked about menstrual blood that gets on clothing. He said: 'Rub it off, wash it and perform prayer in (the garment).'

It was narrated that 'Aisha the wife of the Prophet said: One of us used to menstruate, then rub the blood off her garment when she became pure again, and wash it, and sprinkle water over the rest of the garment, then perform prayer in it.

It was narrated from 'Aishah that: A woman asked her: Does a woman who menstruates have to make up for the prayers she misses? 'Aisha said to her: Are you a Haruriyyah? We used to menstruate with the Prophet and then become pure, and he did not tell us to make up for the prayers we missed.
