It was narrated that 'Amr heard Kuraib saying: I heard Ibn 'Abbas say: 'I stayed overnight with my maternal aunt Maimunah, and the Prophet got up and performed ablution from an old water skin, and he did a brief ablution. Then I got up and did the same as he had done.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاق الشَّافِعِيُّ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَمْرٍو سَمِعَ كُرَيْبًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ بِتُّ عِنْدَ خَالَتِي مَيْمُونَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَتَوَضَّأَ مِنْ شَنَّةٍ وُضُوءًا يُقَلِّلُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُمْتُ فَصَنَعْتُ كَمَا صَنَعَ .

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے اپنی خالہ میمونہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے پاس رات بسر کی، نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم رات میں بیدار ہوئے، اور آپ نے ایک پرانے مشکیزے سے بہت ہی ہلکا وضو کیا، میں بھی اٹھا اور میں نے بھی ویسے ہی کیا جیسے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کیا تھا ۱؎۔

It is narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: The Messenger of Allah saw a man performing ablution, and he said: 'Do not be extravagant, do not be extravagant (in using water).' (Maudu')

It was narrated from Abu Sa'eed Khudri that he heard : The Messenger of Allah say: Shall I not tell you of something by means of which Allah expiates for sins and increases good deeds? They said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He said: Perform ablution properly despite difficulties, increasing the number of steps one takes towards the mosque and waiting for the next prayer after prayer.'

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that: The Prophet said: Sins are expiated by well-performed ablution despite difficulties, increasing the number of steps one takes towards the mosque, (and waiting for the next prayer after prayer).
