It was narrated that Mu’adh bin Jabal said: “I was with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on a journey. One morning I drew close to him when we were on the move and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, tell me of an action that will gain me admittance to Paradise and keep me far away from Hell.’ He said: ‘You have asked for something great, but it is easy for the one for whom Allah makes it easy. Worship Allah and do not associate anything in worship with Him, establish prayer, pay charity, fast Ramadan, and perform Hajj to the House.’ Then he said: ‘Shall I not tell you of the means of goodness? Fasting is a shield, and charity extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire, and a man’s prayer in the middle of the night.’ Then he recited: “Their sides forsake their beds” until he reached: “As a reward for what they used to do.”[32:16-17] Then he said: ‘Shall I not tell you of the head of the matter, and its pillar and pinnacle? (It is) Jihad.’ Then he said: ‘Shall I not tell you of the basis of all that?’ I said: ‘Yes.’ He took hold of his tongue then said: ‘Restrain this.’ I said: ‘O Prophet of Allah, will we be brought to account for what we say?’ He said: ‘May your mother not found you, O Mu’adh! Are people thrown onto their faces in Hell for anything other than the harvest of their tongues?’”

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ الْعَدَنِيُّ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النُّجُودِ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ،‏‏‏‏ فَأَصْبَحْتُ يَوْمًا قَرِيبًا مِنْهُ،‏‏‏‏ وَنَحْنُ نَسِيرُ،‏‏‏‏ فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ،‏‏‏‏ أَخْبِرْنِي بِعَمَلٍ يُدْخِلُنِي الْجَنَّةَ وَيُبَاعِدُنِي مِنَ النَّارِ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَقَدْ سَأَلْتَ عَظِيمًا،‏‏‏‏ وَإِنَّهُ لَيَسِيرٌ عَلَى مَنْ يَسَّرَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ،‏‏‏‏ تَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ لَا تُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئًا،‏‏‏‏ وَتُقِيمُ الصَّلَاةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَتُؤْتِي الزَّكَاةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَتَصُومُ رَمَضَانَ،‏‏‏‏ وَتَحُجَّ الْبَيْتَ،‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَلَا أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى أَبْوَابِ الْخَيْرِ؟ الصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ،‏‏‏‏ وَالصَّدَقَةُ تُطْفِئُ الْخَطِيئَةَ كَمَا يُطْفِئُ النَّارَ الْمَاءُ،‏‏‏‏ وَصَلَاةُ الرَّجُلِ مِنْ جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ،‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ:‏‏‏‏ تَتَجَافَى جُنُوبُهُمْ عَنِ الْمَضَاجِعِ سورة السجدة آية 16 حَتَّى بَلَغَ جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ سورة السجدة آية 17 ،‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكَ بِرَأْسِ الْأَمْرِ وَعَمُودِهِ وَذُرْوَةِ سَنَامِهِ؟ الْجِهَادُ ،‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكَ بِمِلَاكِ ذَلِكَ كُلِّهِ؟ ،‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ بَلَى،‏‏‏‏ فَأَخَذَ بِلِسَانِهِ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ تَكُفُّ عَلَيْكَ هَذَا ،‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ،‏‏‏‏ وَإِنَّا لَمُؤَاخَذُونَ بِمَا نَتَكَلَّمُ بِهِ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ ثَكِلَتْكَ أُمُّكَ يَا مُعَاذُ،‏‏‏‏ وَهَلْ يُكِبُّ النَّاسَ عَلَى وُجُوهِهِمْ فِي النَّارِ إِلَّا حَصَائِدُ أَلْسِنَتِهِمْ .

معاذ بن جبل رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں ایک سفر میں نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ تھا، ایک دن میں صبح کو آپ سے قریب ہوا، اور ہم چل رہے تھے، میں نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! آپ مجھے کوئی عمل بتائیے جو مجھے جنت میں داخل کر دے، اور جہنم سے دور رکھے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: تم نے ایک بہت بڑی چیز کا سوال کیا ہے، اور بیشک یہ عمل اس شخص کے لیے آسان ہے جس کے لیے اللہ تعالیٰ آسان کر دے، تم اللہ تعالیٰ کی عبادت کرو، اس کے ساتھ کسی کو شریک مت کرو، نماز قائم کرو، زکاۃ دو، رمضان کے روزے رکھو اور بیت اللہ کا حج کرو ، پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: کیا میں تمہیں بھلائی کے دروازے نہ بتاؤں؟ روزہ ڈھال ہے، صدقہ گناہوں کو ایسے ہی مٹاتا ہے جیسے پانی آگ کو بجھاتا ہے، اور آدھی رات میں آدمی کا نماز ( تہجد ) ادا کرنا ، پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے یہ آیت:«تتجافى جنوبهم عن المضاجع» ( سورة السجدة: 16 ) تلاوت فرمائی یہاں تک کہ «جزاء بما كانوا يعملون» تک پہنچے، پھر فرمایا: کیا میں تمہیں دین کی اصل، اس کا ستون اور اس کی چوٹی نہ بتا دوں؟ وہ اللہ کی راہ میں جہاد ہے ، پھر فرمایا: کیا ان تمام باتوں کا جس چیز پر دارومدار ہے وہ نہ بتا دوں ؟ میں نے عرض کیا: جی ہاں ضرور بتائیے، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اپنی زبان مبارک پکڑی اور فرمایا: اسے اپنے قابو میں رکھو ، میں نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے نبی! کیا ہم جو بولتے ہیں اس پر بھی ہماری پکڑ ہو گی؟، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: معاذ! تیری ماں تجھ پر روئے! لوگ اپنی زبانوں کی کارستانیوں کی وجہ سے ہی اوندھے منہ جہنم میں ڈالے جائیں گے ۔

It was narrated from Umm Habibah, the wife of the Prophet (ﷺ), that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “The words of the son of Adam count against him, not for him, except what is good and forbidding what is evil, and remembering Allah.”

It was narrated that Abu Sha’tha said: “It was said to Ibn ‘Umar: ‘We enter upon our rulers and say one thing, and when we leave we say something else.’ He said: ‘At the time of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), we used to regard that as hypocrisy.’”

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Part of a person’s goodness in Islam is his leaving alone that which does not concern him.”

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “The best lifestyle is that of a man who holds onto the reins of his horse for the sake of Allah, riding on its back. Every time he hears a commotion he rushes towards it, seeking death wherever he thinks he can find it; and a man who tends sheep at the top of one of these peaks, or in the bottom of one of these valleys, establishing the prayer, paying the charity, and worshipping his Lord until the inevitable (death) comes to him and there is nothing between him and the people except good.”

It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri that a man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: “Which of the people is best?” He said: “A man who strives in Jihad in the cause of Allah with himself and his wealth.” He said: “Then who?” He said: “A man in a mountain pass who worships Allah and leaves the people from his evil.”

It was narrated from Hudhaifah bin Yaman that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “There will be callers at the gates of Hell; whoever responds to them they throw them into it.” I said: “O Messenger of Allah, describe them to us.” He said: “They will be from our people, speaking our language.” I said: “What do you command me to do, if I live to see that?” He said: “Adhere tothe main body of the Muslims and their leader. If there is no such body and no leader, then withdraw from all their groups, even if you bite onto the trunk of a tree until death finds you in that state.”
