It was narrated from Salim from his father that: The Messenger of Allah said: When anyone of you wakes up from sleep, he should not put his hand into the vessel until he has washed it.

حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ وَجَابِرُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ عُقَيْلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْابْنِ شِهَابٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَالِمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنْ نَوْمِهِ فَلَا يُدْخِلْ يَدَهُ فِي الْإِنَاءِ حَتَّى يَغْسِلَهَا .

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: جب کوئی شخص سو کر اٹھے تو اپنا ہاتھ برتن میں نہ ڈالے جب تک کہ اسے دھو نہ لے ۔

It was narrated that Jabir said: The Messenger of Allah said: 'When anyone of oyu gets up from sleep and wants to perform ablution, he should not put his hand into the vessel he used for ablution until he has washed it, because he does not know where his hand spent the night or where he put it.'
