Abdullah bin Abu Qatadah narrated that his father said: The Messenger of Allah said: 'The best things that a man can leave behind are three: A righteous son who will pray for him, ongoing charity whose reward will reach him, and knowledge which is acted upon after his death.' (Hasan) Another chain with similar wording.
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ أَبِي كَرِيمَةَ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحِيمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي زَيْدُ بْنُ أَبِي أُنيْسَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ زيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ خَيْرُ مَا يُخَلِّفُ الرَّجُلُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ ثَلَاثٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَدٌ صَالِحٌ يَدْعُو لَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَصَدَقَةٌ تَجْرِي يَبْلُغُهُ أَجْرُهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعِلْمٌ يُعْمَلُ بِهِ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ .
ابوقتادہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: آدمی اپنی موت کے بعد جو چیزیں دنیا میں چھوڑ جاتا ہے ان میں سے بہترین چیزیں تین ہیں: نیک اور صالح اولاد جو اس کے لیے دعائے خیر کرتی رہے، صدقہ جاریہ جس سے نفع جاری رہے، اس کا ثواب اسے پہنچتا رہے گا، اور ایسا علم کہ اس کے بعد اس پر عمل کیا جاتا رہے ۔

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: The Messenger of Allah said: 'The rewards of the good deeds that will reach a believer after his death are: Knowledge which he taught and spread; a righteous son whom he leaves behind; a copy of the Qur'an that he leaves as a legacy; a mosque that he built; a house that he built for wayfarers; a canal that he dug; or charity that he gave during his lifetime when he was in good health. These deeds will reach him after his death.'

When he heard the sound of their shoes, it affected his soul so he sat down until he made them go ahead of him, lest that make him feel too proud.

(One of the narrators said) I said to Al-Hakam: 'What is 'Iqnuhum?' He said: 'Instruct them.'
