It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Vows do not bring the son of Adam anything unless it has been decreed for him. But he is dominated by Divine preordainment, and will get what is decreed for him. And (vows) are a means of making the miser give something, so what he desires becomes obtainable for him, which was not obtainable before his vow. And Allah says: 'Spend, I will spend on you.'

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ النَّذْرَ لَا يَأْتِي ابْنَ آدَمَ بِشَيْءٍ إِلَّا مَا قُدِّرَ لَهُ وَلَكِنْ يَغْلِبُهُ الْقَدَرُ مَا قُدِّرَ لَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَيُسْتَخْرَجُ بِهِ مِنَ الْبَخِيلِ فَيُيَسَّرُ عَلَيْهِ مَا لَمْ يَكُنْ يُيَسَّرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ قَبْلِ ذَلِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ قَالَ اللَّهُ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْفِقْ أُنْفِقْ عَلَيْكَ .

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: نذر سے آدمی کو کچھ نہیں ملتا مگر وہ جو اس کے لیے مقدر کر دیا گیا ہے، لیکن آدمی کی تقدیر میں جو ہوتا ہے وہ نذر پر غالب آ جاتا ہے، تو اس نذر سے بخیل کا مال نکالا جاتا ہے، اور اس پہ وہ بات آسان کر دی جاتی ہے، جو پہلے آسان نہ تھی، اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرمایا: تو مال خرچ کر، میں تجھ پر خرچ کروں گا ۔

It was narrated from 'Imran bin Husain that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: [There is no vow to commit disobedience and] no vow concerning that which the son of Adam does not possess.

It was narrated from 'Aishah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: There is no vow to commit disobedience, and the expiation (for such a vow) is the expiation for breaking an oath.

lt was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: Whoever makes a vow and does not state it specifically, the expiation (for such a vow) is the expiation for breaking an oath. Whoever makes a vow and is not able to fulfill it, the expiation for that is the expiation for breaking an oath. Whoever makes a vow and is able to fulfill it, let him do so.

It was narrated that 'Umar bin Khattab said: I made a vow during the Ignorance period and I asked the Prophet (ﷺ) (about it) after I became Muslim. He told me to fulfill my vow.
