It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “When Friday comes, angels stand at every door of the mosque and record the names of the people who come, in order of arrival. When the Imam comes out, they close their records and listen to the sermon. The first one who comes to the prayer is like one who sacrifices a camel; the one who comes after him is like one who sacrifices a cow; the one who comes after him is like one who sacrifices a ram,” (and so on) until he made mention of a hen and an egg. Sahl added in his Hadith: “And whoever comes after that comes only to do his duty with regard to the prayer.”

حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ وَسَهْلُ بْنُ أَبِي سَهْلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ كَانَ عَلَى كُلِّ بَابٍ مِنْ أَبْوَابِ الْمَسْجِدِ مَلَائِكَةٌ يَكْتُبُونَ النَّاسَ عَلَى قَدْرِ مَنَازِلِهِمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏الْأَوَّلَ فَالْأَوَّلَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِذَا خَرَجَ الْإِمَامُ طَوَوْا الصُّحُفَ وَاسْتَمَعُوا الْخُطْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَالْمُهَجِّرُ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ كَالْمُهْدِي بَدَنَةً، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ كَمُهْدِي بَقَرَةٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ كَمُهْدِي كَبْشٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَتَّى ذَكَرَ الدَّجَاجَةَ وَالْبَيْضَةَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏زَادَ سَهْلٌ فِي حَدِيثِهِ:‏‏‏‏ فَمَنْ جَاءَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فَإِنَّمَا يَجِيءُ بِحَقٍّ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ.

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: جب جمعہ کا دن آتا ہے تو مسجد کے ہر دروازے پر فرشتے متعین ہوتے ہیں، وہ لوگوں کے نام ان کے درجات کے مطابق لکھتے رہتے ہیں، جو پہلے آتے ہیں ان کا نام پہلے ( ترتیب وار ) لکھتے ہیں، اور جب امام خطبہ کے لیے نکلتا ہے تو فرشتے رجسٹر بند کر دیتے ہیں اور خطبہ سنتے ہیں، لہٰذا جمعہ کے لیے سویرے جانے والا ایک اونٹ قربان کرنے والے، اور اس کے بعد جانے والا گائے قربان کرنے والے، اور اس کے بعد جانے والا مینڈھا قربان کرنے والے کے مانند ہے یہاں تک کہ آپ نے مرغی اور انڈے ( کی قربانی ) کا بھی ذکر فرمایا اور سہل نے اپنی حدیث میں اتنا زیادہ بیان کیا کہ جو کوئی اس کے ( خطبہ شروع ہو چکنے کے ) بعد آئے تو وہ صرف اپنا فریضہ نماز ادا کرنے کے لیے آیا ۱؎۔

It was narrated from Samurah bin Jundab that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) described the likeness of Friday, saying that those who come earliest are like the one who sacrifices a camel, then like one who sacrifices a cow, then like one who sacrifices a sheep, until he made mention of a chicken.

It was narrated that ‘Alqamah said: “I went out with ‘Abdullah to Friday (prayer), and he found three men who arrived before him. He said: ‘The fourth of four, and the fourth of four is not far away. I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: “On the Day of Resurrection people will gather near Allah according to how early they came to Friday (prayer), the first, second, and third.’” Then he said: ‘The fourth of four, and the fourth of four is not far away.’”

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin Salam that he heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying on the pulpit one Friday: “There is nothing wrong with anyone of you buying two garments for Friday (prayer), other than his daily work clothes.” (Another chain) from Yusuf bin Abdullah bin Salam that his father said: The Prophet delivered a sermon to us and he mentioned that.

It was narrated from ‘Aishah that the Prophet (ﷺ) delivered a sermon to the people one Friday, and he saw them wearing woollen clothes. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “There is nothing wrong with any one of you, if he can afford it, buying two garments for Friday, other than his daily work clothes.”

It was narrated from Abu Dharr that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Whoever takes a bath on a Friday and does it well, and purifies himself and does it well, and puts on his best clothes, and puts on whatever Allah decrees for him of the perfume of his family, then comes to the mosque and does not engage in idle talk or separate (pushing between) two people; he will be forgiven for (his sins) between that day and the previous Friday.”

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas said: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘This day is an ‘Eid (festival) which Allah has ordained for the Muslims. Whoever comes to Friday (prayer), let him take a bath and if he has perfume then let him put some on. And upon you (I urge to use) is the tooth stick.”
