Translation

It was narrated from Ibn Abbas from his mother that: She heard the Prophet (ﷺ) recite Al-Mursalat in Maghrib.

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أُمِّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الْمَغْرِبِ بِالْمُرْسَلَاتِ .

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہم اپنی ماں (ام الفضل بنت حارث رضی اللہ عنہا) سے روایت کرتے ہیں کہ انہوں نے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو مغرب میں سورۃ المرسلات پڑھتے سنا۔

He (Zaid) said: I swear by Allah, I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) reciting the longer of the two long surahs in it: 'Alif-Lam-Mim-Sad.'

Marwan bin Al-Hakam narrated that: Zaid bin Thabit said: Why do I see you reciting short surahs in Maghrib when I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) reciting the longer of the two long surahs in it? I said: O Abu Abdullah, what is the longer of the two long surahs? He said: Al-A'raf.
