It was narrated that Ibn Shubrumah said:
Talhah said to the people of Al-Kufah concerning Nabidh: 'It is a test whereby a young man may benefit but an old man may be harmed.' If there was a wedding among them, Talhah and Zubaid would offer milk and honey to drink. It was said to Talhah: 'Why don't you offer Nabidh?' He said: 'I would not like a Muslim to become intoxicated because of me.'
أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: أَنْبَأَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ ابْنِ شُبْرُمَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ طَلْحَةُ لِأَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ: فِي النَّبِيذِ فِتْنَةٌ يَرْبُو فِيهَا الصَّغِيرُ، وَيَهْرَمُ فِيهَا الْكَبِيرُ ، قَالَ: وَكَانَ إِذَا كَانَ فِيهِمْ عُرْسٌ، كَانَ طَلْحَةُ، وَزُبَيْر يَسْقِيَانِ اللَّبَنَ وَالْعَسَلَ، فَقِيلَ لِطَلْحَةَ: أَلَا تَسْقِيهِمُ النَّبِيذَ ؟ قَالَ: إِنِّي أَكْرَهُ أَنْ يَسْكَرَ مُسْلِمٍ فِي سَبَبِي .
ابن شبرمہ کہتے ہیں کہ طلحہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کوفہ والوں سے کہا: نبیذ میں فتنہ ہے اس میں چھوٹا بڑا ہو جاتا ہے اور بڑا بوڑھا ہو جاتا ہے، وہ ( ابن شبرمہ ) کہتے ہیں: اور جب کسی شادی کا ولیمہ ہوتا تو طلحہ اور زبیر رضی اللہ عنہما دودھ اور شہد پلاتے۔ طلحہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہا گیا: آپ نبیذ کیوں نہیں پلاتے؟ وہ بولے: مجھے ناپسند ہے کہ میری وجہ سے کسی مسلمان کو نشہ آئے۔
