Translation

It was narrated from Abu Burdah that his father said: The Messenger of Allah [SAW] sent Mu'adh and me to Yemen. Mu'adh said: 'You are sending us to a land where the people have many kinds of drinks. What should I drink?' He said: 'Drink, but do not drink any intoxicant.'

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاق، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَا،‏‏‏‏ وَمُعَاذٌ إِلَى الْيَمَنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ مُعَاذٌ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّكَ تَبْعَثُنَا إِلَى أَرْضٍ كَثِيرٌ شَرَابُ أَهْلِهَا فَمَا أَشْرَبُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اشْرَبْ وَلَا تَشْرَبْ مُسْكِرًا .

ابوموسیٰ اشعری رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ مجھے اور معاذ رضی اللہ عنہ کو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے یمن بھیجا تو معاذ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: آپ ہمیں ایسی سر زمین میں بھیج رہے رہیں جہاں کے لوگ کثرت سے مشروبات پیتے ہیں، تو میں کیا پیوں؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ” ( جو چاہو ) پیو لیکن کوئی نشہ لانے والی چیز مت پینا“۔

Al-Aswad bin Shaiban As-Sadusi said: I heard 'Ata' being asked by a man: 'We travel and drinks are offered to us in the marketplaces, and we do not know what kind of vessels they were prepared in.' He said: 'Every intoxicant is unlawful.' He repeated the question and he said: 'Every intoxicant is unlawful.' He repeated the question and he said: 'It is as I have told you.'

It was narrated that 'Abdul-Malik bin At-Tufail Al-Jazari said: Umar bin 'Abdul-Aziz wrote to us, saying: 'Do not drink the thickened juice of grapes (obtained by boiling it down) until two-third of it has gone and one-third is left. And every intoxicant is unlawful.'
