Translation

Jabir said: The Prophet [SAW] put on a Qaba' of Ad-Dibaj that had been given to him, but he soon took it off and sent it to 'Umar. It was said to him: 'How soon you took it off, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Jibril, peace be upon him, prohibited me from wearing it.' Then 'Umar came weeping and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you disliked something but you gave it to me.' He said: 'I did not give it to you to wear it, rather I gave it to you to sell it.' So 'Umar sold it for two thousand Dirhams.

حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ لَبِسَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قِبَاءً مِنْ دِيبَاجٍ أُهْدِيَ لَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ أَوْشَكَ أَنْ نَزَعَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَرْسَلَ بِهِ إِلَى عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقِيلَ لَهُ:‏‏‏‏ قَدْ أَوْشَكَ مَا نَزَعْتَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ. قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ نَهَانِي عَنْهُ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام . فَجَاءَ عُمَرُ يَبْكِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏كَرِهْتَ أَمْرًا وَأَعْطَيْتَنِيهِ. قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي لَمْ أُعْطِكَهُ لِتَلْبَسَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنَّمَا أَعْطَيْتُكَهُ لِتَبِيعَهُ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَبَاعَهُ عُمَرُ بِأَلْفَيْ دِرْهَمٍ.

جابر رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے دیبا کی ایک قباء پہنی جو آپ کو ہدیہ کی گئی تھی، پھر تھوڑی دیر بعد اسے اتار دیا اور اسے عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس بھیجا، عرض کیا گیا: اللہ کے رسول! آپ نے اسے بہت جلد اتار دی، فرمایا: ”مجھے جبرائیل علیہ السلام نے اس کے استعمال سے روک دیا ہے“، اتنے میں عمر رضی اللہ عنہ روتے ہوئے آئے اور بولے: اللہ کے رسول! ایک چیز آپ نے ناپسند فرمائی اور وہ مجھے دے دی؟ فرمایا: ”میں نے تمہیں پہننے کے لیے نہیں دی، میں نے تمہیں بیچ دینے کے لیے دی ہے“، چنانچہ عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے اسے دو ہزار درہم میں بیچ دیا۔

Abdullah bin Az-Zubair said, while he was on the Minbar delivering a Khutbah: Muhammad [SAW] said: 'Whoever wears silk in this world, will not wear it in the Hereafter.'

Khalifah said: I heard 'Abdullah bin Az-Zubair say: 'Do not let your womenfolk wear silk, for I heard 'Umar bin Al-Khattab say: The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: Whoever wears it in this world will not wear it in the Hereafter.'

Imran bin Hittan narrated that : He asked 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas about wearing silk. He said: Ask 'Aishah. So I asked 'Aishah and she said: 'Ask 'Abdullah bin 'Umar.' So I asked Ibn 'Umar and he said: 'Abu Hafs told me, that the Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: Whoever wears silk in this world will have no share in the Hereafter.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar, : That the Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: Silk is only worn by one who has no share.

It was narrated that 'Ali Al-Bariqi said: A woman came to me to ask a question, and I said to her: 'There is Ibn 'Umar.' So she went after him to ask him, and I went after her to hear what he would say. She said: 'Tell me about silk.' He said: 'The Messenger of Allah [SAW] forbade it.'

It was narrated that Al-Bara' bin 'Azib said: The Messenger of Allah [SAW] enjoined seven things upon us, and forbade seven things for us. He forbade to us gold rings, silver vessels, Al-Mayathir, Al-Qassiyah, Al-Istabraq, Ad-Dibaj, and silk.
