It was narrated that Mu'awiyah said: O people, the Prophet [SAW] forbade you to give false impressions. He brought a piece of black cloth and threw it in front of them and said: 'This is what women are putting on their heads and covering it.'

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا مَحْبُوبُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ الْقَعْقَاعِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ،‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَاكُمْ عَنِ الزُّورِ ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَجَاءَ بِخِرْقَةٍ سَوْدَاءَ فَأَلْقَاهَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ هُوَ هَذَا تَجْعَلُهُ الْمَرْأَةُ فِي رَأْسِهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ تَخْتَمِرُ عَلَيْهِ .

معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ انہوں نے کہا: لوگو! نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے تمہیں جھوٹ اور فریب سے روکا ہے، راوی ( ابن المسیب ) کہتے ہیں: اور انہوں نے ایک کالا چیتھڑا نکالا پھر اسے ان کے سامنے رکھ دیا اور کہا: یہی ہے وہ ( یعنی جھوٹ اور فریب کاری ) ، اسے عورت اپنے سر میں لگا کر دوپٹا اوڑھ لیتی ہے ۱؎۔

It was narrated from Asma' that: A woman came to the Messenger of Allah [SAW] and said: O Messenger of Allah [SAW], a daughter of mine is going to get married. She got sick and her hair fell out. Is there any sin on me if I give her hair extensions? He said: Allah has cursed the woman who affixes hair extensions and the one who has that done.
