Translation

Abu Shaikh narrated from his brother Himman: That when Mu'awiyah went on Hajj, he gathered together a group of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah [SAW] at the Ka'bah and said to them: I adjure you by Allah, did the Messenger of Allah [SAW] forbid wearing gold? They said: Yes. He said: And I bear witness to that.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا حَرْبُ بْنُ شَدَّادٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو شَيْخٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَخِيهِ حِمَّانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَامَ حَجَّ جَمَعَ نَفَرًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْكَعْبَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ لَهُمْ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ،‏‏‏‏ هَلْ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ لُبُوسِ الذَّهَبِ ؟ قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ. خَالَفَهُ الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ عَلَى اخْتِلَافِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَلَيْهِ فِيهِ.

ابوشیخ کے بھائی حمان سے روایت ہے کہ جس سال معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے حج کیا، صحابہ کرام کی ایک جماعت کو کعبے میں اکٹھا کر کے ان سے کہا: میں آپ کو اللہ کی قسم دیتا ہوں۔ کیا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے سونا پہننے سے منع فرمایا؟ لوگوں نے کہا: ہاں، انہوں نے کہا: میں بھی اس کا گواہ ہوں۔ ( ابوعبدالرحمٰن نسائی کہتے ہیں: ) اوزاعی نے حرب بن شداد کے خلاف روایت کی ہے جب کہ خود اوزاعی کے شاگرد ان سے روایت کرنے میں مختلف ہیں۔

Himman said: Mu'awiyah went on Hajj and he called a group of Ansar to the Ka'bah. He said: 'I adjure you by Allah, did you hear the Messenger of Allah [SAW] forbid gold?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'And I bear witness to that.'

Abu Shaikh Al-Huna'i said: I heard Mu'awiyah say to a group of Muhajirun and Ansar who were around him: 'Do you know that the Messenger of Allah [SAW] forbade wearing silk?' They said: 'By Allah, yes.' He said 'And (he forbade) wearing gold unless it was broken (into smaller pieces)?' They said: 'Yes.' 'Ali bin Ghurab contradicted him; he reported it from Bahais, from Abu Shaikh, from Ibn 'Umar.
