It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Amr that: The Prophet [SAW] said: There are four (traits), whoever has them is a hypocrite and whoever has one of them, then has one of the traits of hypocrisy, until he gives it up: When he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; when he makes a covenant, he betrays it; and when he argues, he resorts to foul language.
أَخْبَرَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَن سُلَيْمَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَرْبَعَةٌ مَنْ كُنَّ فِيهِ كَانَ مُنَافِقًا،‏‏‏‏ أَوْ كَانَتْ فِيهِ خَصْلَةٌ مِنَ الْأَرْبَعِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏كَانَتْ فِيهِ خَصْلَةٌ مِنَ النِّفَاقِ حَتَّى يَدَعَهَا:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا حَدَّثَ كَذَبَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا وَعَدَ أَخْلَفَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا عَاهَدَ غَدَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا خَاصَمَ فَجَرَ .
عبداللہ بن عمرو رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ   نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جس میں چار چیزیں ہوں، وہ منافق ہے، یا ان چار میں سے کوئی ایک خصلت ( عادت ) ہو تو اس میں نفاق کی ایک خصلت ہے جب تک کہ وہ اسے چھوڑ نہ دے: جب بات کرے تو جھوٹ بولے، وعدہ کرے تو وعدہ خلافی کرے، عہد و پیمان کرے تو توڑ دے، اور جب جھگڑا کرے تو گالی گلوچ کرے“۔

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that : The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: The signs of the hypocrite are three: When he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise he breaks it; and when he is entrusted with something, he betrays (that trust).
