t was narrated that 'Adiyy bin Hatim said: I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I release my trained dogs and they catch (the game) for me - should I eat of it? he said: 'If you release your trained dogs, and mention the name of Allah, and they catch it for your, then eat.' I said: 'Even if they kill it?' He said: 'Even if they kill it, so long as another, strange dog has not joined them 'I said: 'And I shoot the game with the Mirad and I hit it - should I eat?' He said: ''If you shoot the and it penetrates (the target), then eat, but if it hits it with its broad edge, then do not6 eat it.
أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ جَرِيرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ هَمَّامٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ،‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي أُرْسِلُ الْكِلَابَ الْمُعَلَّمَةَ،‏‏‏‏ فَتُمْسِكُ عَلَيَّ فَآكُلُ مِنْهُ ؟، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ الْكِلَابَ يَعْنِي الْمُعَلَّمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَذَكَرْتَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَمْسَكْنَ عَلَيْكَ فَكُلْ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ وَإِنْ قَتَلْنَ ؟، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَإِنْ قَتَلْنَ مَا لَمْ يَشْرَكْهَا كَلْبٌ لَيْسَ مِنْهَا ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ وَإِنِّي أَرْمِي الصَّيْدَ بِالْمِعْرَاضِ فَأُصِيبُ فَآكُلُ ؟، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا رَمَيْتَ بِالْمِعْرَاضِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَسَمَّيْتَ فَخَزَقَ فَكُلْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا أَصَابَ بِعَرْضِهِ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ .
عدی بن حاتم رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   میں نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! میں سدھائے ہوئے کتے چھوڑتا ہوں تو وہ میرے لیے شکار پکڑ کر لاتے ہیں، کیا میں اس سے کھا سکتا ہوں؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جب تم کتے دوڑاؤ یا چھوڑو، ( یعنی سدھائے ہوئے ) اور اللہ کا نام لے لو اور وہ تمہارے لیے شکار پکڑ لائیں تو تم کھاؤ“۔ میں نے عرض کیا: اور اگر وہ اسے مار ڈالیں؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اگرچہ وہ اسے مار ڈالیں جب تک کہ اس میں کوئی ایسا کتا شریک نہ ہو جو ان کتوں میں سے نہیں تھا“۔ میں نے عرض کیا: میں «معراض» ( بے پر کے تیر ) سے شکار کرتا ہوں اور مجھے شکار مل جاتا ہے تو کیا میں کھاؤں؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جب تم «معراض» ( بغیر پر والا تیر ) پھینکو اور «بسم اللہ» پڑھ لو اور وہ ( شکار کو ) چھید ڈالے تو کھاؤ اور اگر وہ آڑا لگے تو مت کھاؤ“ ۱؎۔
