Maimunah, the wife of the Prophet narrated: The Messenger of Allah was upset one morning and Maimunah said to him: O Messenger of Allah, you look upset today., He said: 'Jibril, peace be upon him, had promised to meet me last night but he did not come, and by Allah, he never failed to keep an appointment,; The day passed, then he thought of a puppy that was beneath a table of ours. He ordered that it be taken out, and then he took some water In his hand and sprinkled it over the place where it had been. That evening, Jibril, peace be upon him, came and met him. The Messenger of Allah said to him: 'You [promised to meet me last night,; He said: 'Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture,; the next day the Messenger of Allah Commanded that dogs be killed.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَالِدِ بْنِ خَلِيٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ السَّبَّاقِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَتْنِي مَيْمُونَةُ زَوْجُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَصْبَحَ يَوْمًا وَاجِمًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَتْ لَهُ مَيْمُونَةُ:‏‏‏‏ أَيْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَقَدِ اسْتَنْكَرْتُ هَيْئَتَكَ مُنْذُ الْيَوْمَ. فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام كَانَ وَعَدَنِي أَنْ يَلْقَانِي اللَّيْلَةَ فَلَمْ يَلْقَنِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَمَا وَاللَّهِ مَا أَخْلَفَنِي . قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَظَلَّ يَوْمَهُ كَذَلِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ وَقَعَ فِي نَفْسِهِ جَرْوُ كَلْبٍ تَحْتَ نَضَدٍ لَنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَمَرَ بِهِ،‏‏‏‏ فَأُخْرِجَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ أَخَذَ بِيَدِهِ مَاءً فَنَضَحَ بِهِ مَكَانَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا أَمْسَى لَقِيَهُ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ قَدْ كُنْتَ وَعَدْتَنِي أَنْ تَلْقَانِي الْبَارِحَةَ. قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَجَلْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَكِنَّا لَا نَدْخُلُ بَيْتًا فِيهِ كَلْبٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا صُورَةٌ . قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَأَصْبَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ فَأَمَرَ بِقَتْلِ الْكِلَابِ.

ام المؤمنین میمونہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے روایت ہے کہ ایک روز صبح کو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم بہت غمگین اور اداس اٹھے، میمونہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے آپ سے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! مجھے آپ کی حالت آج کچھ بدلی بدلی عجیب و غریب لگ رہی ہے، آپ نے فرمایا: ”جبرائیل نے مجھ سے رات میں ملنے کا وعدہ کیا تھا، لیکن وہ ملنے نہیں آئے، اللہ کی قسم! انہوں نے کبھی وعدہ خلافی نہیں کی“، آپ اس دن اسی طرح ( غمزدہ ) رہے، پھر آپ کو کتے کے ایک بچے ( پلے ) کا خیال آیا جو ہمارے تخت کے نیچے تھا، آپ نے حکم دیا تو اسے نکالا گیا پھر آپ نے اپنے ہاتھ میں پانی لے کر اس سے اس جگہ پر چھینٹے مارے، پھر جب شام ہوئی تو آپ کو جبرائیل علیہ السلام ملے، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ان سے فرمایا: ”آپ نے مجھ سے گزشتہ رات ملنے کا وعدہ کیا تھا؟“ انہوں نے فرمایا: جی ہاں، لیکن ہم ایسے گھر میں داخل نہیں ہوتے جہاں کتا ہو یا تصویر ( مجسمہ ) ہو، پھر جب صبح ہوئی تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کتوں کو مار ڈالنے کا حکم دیا۔

As-Saib bin Yazid narrated that Surfyan bin Abi Zuhair Ash-Shanai I came to visit them and said: The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever keeps a dog which he does not need for farming or livestock, one Qirt will be deducted from his (good) deeds each day.' It was said to him: 'did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah He said: 'Yes, by the Lord of this Masjid. '

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: The Messenger of Allah said:' whoever keeps a dog except one that is trained for hunting or a dog for herding livestock, two Qirats will be deducted from his reward each day.
