It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: Sa'd bin 'Ubadah asked the Messenger of Allah about a vow which his mother had sworn, but she died before she could fulfill it. The Messenger of Allah said: 'Fulfill it on her behalf.'

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ،‏‏‏‏ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ،‏‏‏‏ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اسْتَفْتَى سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي نَذْرٍ كَانَ عَلَى أُمِّهِ،‏‏‏‏ فَتُوُفِّيَتْ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَقْضِيَهُ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ اقْضِهِ عَنْهَا .

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ سعد بن عبادہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے ایک نذر کے بارے میں مسئلہ پوچھا جو ان کی ماں کے ذمے تھی اور وہ اسے پوری کرنے سے پہلے ہی انتقال کر گئی تھیں تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اسے ان کی طرف سے تم پوری کرو ۔

Abdur-Rahman bin Ka'b bin Malik narrated that 'Abdullah bin Ka'b said: I heard Ka'b bin Malik narrating his Hadith about when he stayed behind and did not join the Messenger of Allah on the campaign to Tabuk. He said: 'When I sat down before him I said: O Messenger of Allah, as part of my repentance I want to give my wealth in charity to Allah and His Messenger. The Messenger of Allah said: Keep some of your wealth for yourself; that is better for you. I said: I will keep my share that is in Khaibar. '
