Asim said: I read a book to Ash-Sha'bi in which it was narrated from Jabir that the Prophet said: 'A woman should not be taken as a co-wife to her paternal aunt or her maternal aunt.' He said: 'I heard that from Jabir.'

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَنِي عَاصِمٌ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى الشَّعْبِيِّ كِتَابًا فِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ جَابِرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا تُنْكَحُ الْمَرْأَةُ عَلَى عَمَّتِهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا عَلَى خَالَتِهَا ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ هَذَا مِنْ جَابِرٍ.

شعبہ کہتے ہیں کہ مجھے عاصم نے بتایا کہ میں نے شعبی کے سامنے ایک کتاب پڑھی جس میں جابر رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”کسی عورت سے اس کی پھوپھی کی موجودگی میں، اور اسی طرح اس کی خالہ کی موجودگی میں شادی نہیں کی جا سکتی“ تو شعبی نے کہا: میں نے یہ حدیث جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے سنی ہے۔

It was narrated from 'Aishah that her paternal uncle through breast-feeding, whose name was Aflah, asked permission to meet her, and she observed Hijab before him. The Messenger of Allah was told about that and he said: Do not observe Hijab before him, for what becomes unlawful (for marriage) through breast-feeding is that which becomes unlawful through lineage.
