Narrated 'Amir bin Shurahbil Ash-Sha'bi: 'Amir bin Shurahbil Ash-Sha'bi narrated that he heard Fatimah bint Qais--who was one of the first Muhajir women-- say: 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Awf proposed marriage to me, along with others of the Companions of Muhammad. And the Messenger of Allah proposed that I marry his freed slave, Usamah bin Zaid. I was told that the Messenger of Allah had said: 'Whoever loves me, let him love Usamah.' When the Messenger of Allah spoke to me I said: 'My affairs are in your hands; marry me to whomever you wish.' He said: 'Go to Umm Sharik.' Umm Sharik was a rich Ansari woman who used to spend a great deal in the cause of Allah, and she always had a lot of guests. I said: 'I will do that.' He said: 'Do not do that, for Umm Sharik has a lot of guests, and I would not like your Khimar to fall off, or your shins to become uncovered, and the people to see something of you that you do not want them to see. Rather go to your cousin (son of your paternal uncle) 'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Umm Maktum, who is a man of Banu Fihr.' So I went to him.

أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلَّامٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ الْمُعَلِّمُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بُرَيْدَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنِي عَامِرُ بْنُ شَرَاحِيلَ الشَّعْبِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ قَيْسٍ وَكَانَتْ مِنْ الْمُهَاجِرَاتِ الْأُوَلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ خَطَبَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ فِي نَفَرٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَخَطَبَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى مَوْلَاهُ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ كُنْتُ حُدِّثْتُ،‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ أَحَبَّنِي فَلْيُحِبَّ أُسَامَةَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا كَلَّمَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ أَمْرِي بِيَدِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَانْكِحْنِي مَنْ شِئْتَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ انْطَلِقِي إِلَى أُمِّ شَرِيكٍ ،‏‏‏‏ وَأُمُّ شَرِيكٍ امْرَأَةٌ غَنِيَّةٌ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ عَظِيمَةُ النَّفَقَةِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَنْزِلُ عَلَيْهَا الضِّيفَانُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ سَأَفْعَلُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا تَفْعَلِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنَّ أُمَّ شَرِيكٍ كَثِيرَةُ الضِّيفَانِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنِّي أَكْرَهُ أَنْ يَسْقُطَ عَنْكِ خِمَارُكِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ يَنْكَشِفَ الثَّوْبُ عَنْ سَاقَيْكِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَيَرَى الْقَوْمُ مِنْكِ بَعْضَ مَا تَكْرَهِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَكِنْ انْتَقِلِي إِلَى ابْنِ عَمِّكِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي فِهْرٍ ،‏‏‏‏ فَانْتَقَلْتُ إِلَيْهِ ،‏‏‏‏ مُخْتَصَرٌ.

عامر بن شراحیل شعبی کا بیان ہے کہ انہوں نے فاطمہ بنت قیس رضی اللہ عنہا سے ( جو پہلے پہل ہجرت کرنے والی عورتوں میں سے تھیں ) سنا ہے انہوں نے کہا: مجھے عبدالرحمٰن بن عوف رضی اللہ عنہ نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے صحابہ کی ایک جماعت کے ساتھ آ کر شادی کا پیام دیا، اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے بھی مجھے اپنے غلام اسامہ بن زید رضی اللہ عنہما سے شادی کے لیے پیغام دیا، اور میں نے سن رکھا تھا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ہے: ”جو کوئی مجھ سے محبت رکھتا ہے اسے اسامہ سے بھی محبت رکھنی چاہیئے“۔ چنانچہ جب رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھ سے ( اس سلسلے میں ) گفتگو کی تو میں نے کہا: میں اپنا معاملہ آپ کو سونپتی ہوں، آپ جس سے چاہیں میری شادی کر دیں۔ آپ نے فرمایا: ”ام شریک کے پاس چلی جاؤ“۔ ( کہتی ہیں: ) وہ انصار کی ایک مالدار اور فی سبیل اللہ بہت خرچ کرنے والی عورت تھیں ان کے پاس مہمان بکثرت آتے تھے۔ میں نے کہا: میں ایسا ہی کروں گی پھر آپ نے کہا: نہیں، ایسا مت کرو، کیونکہ ام شریک بہت مہمان نواز عورت ہیں اور مجھے یہ اچھا نہیں لگتا کہ تم وہاں رہو، پھر کبھی تمہاری اوڑھنی تمہارے ( سر ) سے ڈھلک جائے یا تمہاری پنڈلیوں سے کپڑا ہٹ جائے تو تجھے لوگ کسی ایسی حالت میں عریاں دیکھ لیں جو تمہارے لیے ناگواری کا باعث ہو بلکہ ( تمہارے لیے مناسب یہ ہے کہ ) تم اپنے چچا زاد بھائی عبداللہ بن عمرو بن ام مکتوم کے پاس چلی جاؤ، وہ فہر ( قبیلے ) کی نسل سے ہیں، چنانچہ میں ان کے یہاں چلی گئی۔ یہ حدیث مختصر ہے۔

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Prophet said: None of you should propose marriage to a woman when someone else has already proposed to her.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: The Messenger of Allah said: 'Do not artificially inflate prices, a resident should not sell for a Bedouin, a man should not offer more for something that has already been bought by his brother, no one should propose marriage to a woman when someone else has already proposed to her, and no woman should try to bring about the divorce of her sister, in order to deprive her of the blessings that she has.'

Narrated Abu Hurairah: It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet said: None of you should propose marriage to a woman when someone else has already proposed to her.
