It was narrated that Al-Ahnaf bin Qais said: We set out as pilgrims and came to Al-Madinah intending to perform Hajj. While we were in our camping place unloading our mounts, someone came to us and said: 'The people have gathered in the Masjid and there is panis.' So we set out and found the people gathered around a group in the middle of the Masjid, among whom were 'Ali, Zubayr, Talhah and Sa'd bin Abi Waqas. While we were like that, 'Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, came, wearing a yellow cloak with which he had covered his head. He said: 'Is Talhah here? Is Az-Zubair here? Is Sa'd here?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'I adjure you be the One beside Whom there is none worthy of worship, din't the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: Whoever buys the Mirbad [1] of Banu so-and so, Allah will forgive him, and I bought it for twenty or twenty-five thousand, then I came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and told him, and he said: Add it to our Masjid and the reward for it will be yours?' They said: 'By Allah, yes.' He said: 'I adjure you by the One beside Whom there is none worthy of worship, didn't the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: Whoever buys the well of Rumah, Allah will forgive him, so I bought it for such and such and amount, then I came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and told him, and he said: Give it to provide water for the Muslims, and the reward for it will be yours?' They said: 'By Allah, yes.' He said: 'I adjure you by the One beside Whom there is none worthy of worship, didn't the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: Whoever equips these (men)- meaning the army of Al-'Usrah (Tabuk) - Allah will forgive him, so I equipped them until they were not lacking even a rope or a bridle?' They said: 'By Allah, yes.' He said: 'O Allah, bear witness, O Allah, bear witness, O Allah, bear witness.' [1] Mirbad: A place for drying dates.

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ حُصَيْنَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ يُحَدِّثُ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَاوَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الْأَحْنَفِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ خَرَجْنَا حُجَّاجًا فَقَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ وَنَحْنُ نُرِيدُ الْحَجَّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ فِي مَنَازِلِنَا نَضَعُ رِحَالَنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِذْ أَتَانَا آتٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ النَّاسَ قَدِ اجْتَمَعُوا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَفَزِعُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَانْطَلَقْنَا فَإِذَا النَّاسُ مُجْتَمِعُونَ عَلَى نَفَرٍ فِي وَسَطِ الْمَسْجِدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَفِيهِمْ عَلِيٌّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالزُّبَيْرُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَطَلْحَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَسَعْدُ بْنُ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنَّا لَكَذَلِكَ إِذْ جَاءَ عُثْمَانُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَلَيْهِ مُلَاءَةٌ صَفْرَاءُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَدْ قَنَّعَ بِهَا رَأْسَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَهَهُنَا طَلْحَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَهَهُنَا الزُّبَيْرُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَهَهُنَا سَعْدٌ ؟ قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَإِنِّي أَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ أَتَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ يَبْتَاعُ مِرْبَدَ بَنِي فُلَانٍ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ ،‏‏‏‏ فَابْتَعْتُهُ بِعِشْرِينَ أَلْفًا أَوْ بِخَمْسَةٍ وَعِشْرِينَ أَلْفًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اجْعَلْهُ فِي مَسْجِدِنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَجْرُهُ لَكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ أَتَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَنِ ابْتَاعَ بِئْرَ رُومَةَ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ ،‏‏‏‏ فَابْتَعْتُهَا بِكَذَا وَكَذَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ قَدِ ابْتَعْتُهَا بِكَذَا وَكَذَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اجْعَلْهَا سِقَايَةً لَلْمُسْلِمِينَ وَأَجْرُهَا لَكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ أَتَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَظَرَ فِي وُجُوهِ الْقَوْمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ يُجَهِّزُ هَؤُلَاءِ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ يَعْنِي جَيْشَ الْعُسْرَةِ فَجَهَّزْتُهُمْ حَتَّى لَمْ يَفْقِدُوا عِقَالًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا خِطَامًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ اشْهَدْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏اللَّهُمَّ اشْهَدْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏اللَّهُمَّ اشْهَدْ .

احنف بن قیس کہتے ہیں کہ ہم حاجی لوگ نکلے، اور مدینہ پہنچے، ہمارا ارادہ صرف حج کا تھا ہم ابھی اپنا سامان اتار کر اپنے ڈیروں میں رکھ ہی رہے تھے کہ ایک آنے والا ہمارے پاس آیا اور اس نے بتایا کہ لوگ مسجد میں اکٹھا ہو رہے ہیں، اور گھبرائے ہوئے ہیں، ہم بھی وہاں پہنچے دیکھا کہ لوگ بیچ مسجد میں کچھ ( اکابر ) صحابہ کو گھیرے ہوئے ہیں، ان میں علی، زبیر، طلحہ اور سعد بن ابی وقاص ( رضی اللہ عنہم ) ہیں، ہم ابھی یہ دیکھ ہی رہے تھے کہ اتنے میں عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ پیلی چادر پہنے ہوئے اور اسی سے اپنا سر ڈھانپے ہوئے تشریف لائے ۱؎، اور کہا: کیا یہاں طلحہ ہیں؟ کیا یہاں زبیر ہیں؟ کیا یہاں سعد ہیں؟ لوگوں نے کہا: جی ہاں ہیں، تو انہوں نے کہا: میں تم سب سے اس اللہ کی قسم دلا کر پوچھتا ہوں جس کے سوا کوئی معبود برحق نہیں: کیا تمہیں معلوم ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا تھا: ”جو شخص بنی فلاں کا کھلیان ( مسجد نبوی کے قریب کی زمین ) خرید کر مسجد کے لیے وقف کر دے گا اللہ تعالیٰ اس کی مغفرت فرما دے گا“ تو میں نے اسے بیس ہزار یا پچیس ہزار میں خرید لیا۔ پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آ کر آپ کو بتایا تو آپ نے فرمایا: ”اسے ہماری مسجد میں شامل کر دو، اس کا ثواب تمہیں ملے گا“ ( چنانچہ میں نے ایسا ہی کیا ) لوگوں نے کہا: اے ہمارے رب! ہاں یہ سچ ہے۔ انہوں نے ( پھر ) کہا: میں تم سب سے اس اللہ کی قسم دلا کر پوچھتا ہوں جس کے سوا کوئی حقیقی معبود نہیں: کیا تم لوگ جانتے ہو کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جو شخص رومہ کا کنواں خریدے گا، اللہ اس کی مغفرت فرما دے گا“، تو میں نے اسے اتنے اور اتنے میں خریدا اور رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آ کر آپ کو بتایا کہ میں نے اتنے اور اتنے میں اسے خرید لیا ہے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اسے مسلمانوں کے پانی پینے کے لیے ( وقف ) کر دو، اس کا اجر تمہیں ملے گا“، ( تو میں نے اسے مسلمانوں کے پینے کے لیے عام کر دیا ) ، لوگوں نے کہا: اے ہمارے رب! ہاں ( یہ سچ ہے ) ، انہوں نے پھر کہا: میں تم سب سے اس اللہ کی قسم دلا کر پوچھتا ہوں جس کے سوا کوئی حقیقی معبود نہیں ہے: کیا تمہیں معلوم ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے لوگوں کے چہروں پر نگاہ ڈال کر کہا تھا جو کوئی انہیں ( تنگی و محتاجی والی فوج کو ) ضروریات جنگ سے مسلح کر دے گا اللہ تعالیٰ اسے بخش دے گا، میں نے اس لشکر کو ہر طرح سے مسلح کر دیا یہاں تک کہ رسی اور نکیل کی بھی انہیں ضرورت نہ رہی۔ لوگوں نے کہا اے ہمارے رب! ہاں ( یہ سچ ہے ) ۔ انہوں نے کہا: اے اللہ! تو گواہ رہ، اے اللہ! تو گواہ رہ، اے اللہ! تو گواہ رہ۔

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the prophet (ﷺ) said: Whoever spends on a pair (of things) in the cause of Allah will be called in Paradise: 'O slave of Allah, here is prosperity.' Whoever is one of the people of Salah, he will be called from the gate of Paradise, Whoever is one of the people of jihad, he will be called from the gate of paradise. Whoever is one of the people of charity, he will be called from the gate of Paradise. Whoever is one of the people who fast, he will be called from the gate of Ar-Rayyan. Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, said: O Messenger of Allah, no distress or need will befall the one who is called from those gates. Will there be anyone who will be called from all these gates? The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Yes, and I hope that you will be one of them.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever spends on a pair (of things) in the cause of Allah, the gatekeepers of Paradise will call him from the gates of Paradise (saying): O So-and-so, come and enter!' Abu Bakr said: 'O Messenger of Allah, such a person will never perish or be miserable.' The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'I hope that you will be one of them.'

It was narrated that Sa'sa'ah bin Mu'awiyah said: I met Abu Dharr and said: 'Tell me a Hadith.' He said. Yes, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: There is no Muslim worshiper who spends from each type of his wealth on a pair (of things) in the cause of Allah, but the keepers of Paradise will welcome him, all of them calling him to what they have (of reward).' I said: How is that? He said: If it is camels, he gives two, and if it is cows, he gives two.'

It was narrated that Khuraim bin Fatik said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever spends in the cause of Allah, it will be recorded for him seven hundred fold.'

It was narrated from Abu Mas'ud that a man gave a bridled camel in charity in the cause of Allah. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: On the Day of Resurrection seven hundred bridled camels will come to you.

It was narrated from Mu'adh bin Jabal that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Campaigns are of two types. As for the one who seek the Face of Allah, obeys the imam, spends what is precious to him, is easy-going with his companion and avoids mischief, when he is asleep and when he is awake, it will all bring reward. But as for the one who fights to show off, and he disobeys the imam and does mischief in the land, he will not come back the same as when he left.
