Uthaman bin Affan narrated that the Prohet said: The Muhrim should not get or propose marriage.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ مُوسَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ نُبَيْهِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَرْسَلَ عُمَرُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَعْمَرٍ إِلَى أَبَانَ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ يَسْأَلُهُ أَيَنْكِحُ الْمُحْرِمُ ؟ فَقَالَ أَبَانُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ حَدَّثَ،‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا يَنْكِحُ الْمُحْرِمُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا يَخْطُبُ .

نبیہ بن وہب کہتے ہیں کہ عمر بن عبیداللہ بن معمر نے ابان بن عثمان کے پاس کسی کو یہ سوال کرنے کے لیے بھیجا کہ کیا محرم نکاح کر سکتا ہے؟ تو ابان نے کہا کہ عثمان بن عفان رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”محرم نہ نکاح کرے، اور نہ نکاح کا پیغام بھیجے“۔
