It was narrated that Jabir said:
We, the Companions of the Prophet, entered Ihram for Hajj only, and nothing else. We came to Makkah on the morning of the fourth of Dhul-Hajjah, and the Prophet commanded us: Exit Ihram and make it Umrah. He heard that we were saying: 'when there are only five days between us and 'Arafat he commands us to exit Ihram and we will go out to Mina with our male members dripping with semen (because of recent intimacy with our wives)?' the Prophet stood up and addressed us, saying: 'I have heard what you said. I am the most righteous and the most pious of you, and were it not for the Hadi I would have exited Ihram. If I had known what I know now, I would not have from Yemen and he said: 'for what did you enter Ihram?' He said: 'For that for which the Messenger of Allah entered Ihram.' Suraq bin Malik bin Jushum said: 'O Messenger of Allah, do you think that this Umrah of ours is for this year only or for all time?' He said: 'It is for all time.
أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءٌ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ: أَهْلَلْنَا أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْحَجِّ خَالِصًا لَيْسَ مَعَهُ غَيْرُهُ خَالِصًا وَحْدَهُ فَقَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ صَبِيحَةَ رَابِعَةٍ مَضَتْ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ، فَأَمَرَنَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: أَحِلُّوا وَاجْعَلُوهَا عُمْرَةً ، فَبَلَغَهُ عَنَّا أَنَّا نَقُولُ: لَمَّا لَمْ يَكُنْ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ عَرَفَةَ إِلَّا خَمْسٌ، أَمَرَنَا أَنْ نَحِلَّ، فَنَرُوحَ إِلَى مِنًى وَمَذَاكِيرُنَا تَقْطُرُ مِنَ الْمَنِيِّ، فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَخَطَبَنَا، فَقَالَ: فَقَدْ بَلَغَنِي الَّذِي قُلْتُمْ وَإِنِّي لَأَبَرُّكُمْ وَأَتْقَاكُمْ وَلَوْلَا الْهَدْيُ لَحَلَلْتُ، وَلَوِ اسْتَقْبَلْتُ مِنْ أَمْرِي مَا اسْتَدْبَرْتُ مَا أَهْدَيْتُ . (حديث مرفوع) (حديث موقوف) قَالَ: وَقَدِمَ عَلِيٌّ مِنْ الْيَمَنِ، فَقَالَ: بِمَا أَهْلَلْتَ ؟ قَالَ بِمَا أَهَلَّ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: فَأَهْدِ وَامْكُثْ حَرَامًا كَمَا أَنْتَ . (حديث مرفوع) (حديث موقوف) قَالَ: وَقَالَ سُرَاقَةُ بْنُ مَالِكِ بْنِ جُعْشُمٍ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرَأَيْتَ عُمْرَتَنَا هَذِهِ لِعَامِنَا هَذَا أَوْ لِلْأَبَدِ ؟ قَالَ: هِيَ لِلْأَبَدِ .
جابر رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ہم نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے اصحاب نے خالص حج کا احرام باندھا، اس کے ساتھ اور کسی چیز کی نیت نہ تھی۔ تو ہم ۴ ذی الحجہ کی صبح کو مکہ پہنچے تو نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ہمیں حکم دیا ”احرام کھول ڈالو اور اسے ( حج کے بجائے ) عمرہ بنا لو“، تو آپ کو ہمارے متعلق یہ اطلاع پہنچی کہ ہم کہہ رہے ہیں کہ ہمارے اور عرفہ کے درمیان صرف پانچ دن باقی رہ گئے ہیں اور آپ نے ہمیں حکم دیا ہے کہ ہم اپنے احرام کھول کر حلال ہو جائیں تو ہم منیٰ کو جائیں گے، اور ہمارے ذکر سے منی ٹپک رہی ہو گی، تو نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کھڑے ہوئے اور آپ نے ہمیں خطبہ دیا اور فرمایا: ”جو بات تم لوگوں نے کہی ہے وہ مجھے معلوم ہو چکی ہے، میں تم سے زیادہ نیک اور تم سب سے زیادہ اللہ تعالیٰ سے ڈرنے والا ہوں، اگر میرے ساتھ ہدی نہ ہوتی تو میں بھی حلال ہو گیا ہوتا، اگر جو بات مجھے اب معلوم ہوئی ہے پہلے معلوم ہو گئی ہوتی تو میں ہدی ساتھ لے کر نہ آتا“۔ ( اسی دوران ) علی رضی اللہ عنہ یمن سے آئے، تو آپ نے ان سے پوچھا: ”تم نے کس چیز کا تلبیہ پکارا ہے؟“ انہوں نے کہا: جس کا نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے پکارا ہے، آپ نے فرمایا: ”تم ہدی دو اور احرام باندھے رہو، جس طرح تم ہو“۔ اور سراقہ بن مالک بن جعشم رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: اللہ کے رسول! ہمیں بتائیے ہمارا یہ عمرہ اسی سال کے لیے ہے، یا ہمیشہ کے لیے؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”ہمیشہ کے لیے ہے“۔
