Ubaidullah bin 'Adiyy bin Al-Khiyar narrated that: two men told him, that they came to the Messenger of Allah asking him for charity. He looked from one to the other and he saw that they were strong. The Messenger of Allah said: If you want, I will give you, but no rich man or one who is strong and able to earn has a share of it.
أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى،‏‏‏‏ قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَدِيِّ بْنِ الْخِيَارِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ رَجُلَيْنِ حَدَّثَاهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُمَا أَتَيَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْأَلَانِهِ مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَلَّبَ فِيهِمَا الْبَصَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ:‏‏‏‏ بَصَرَهُ فَرَآهُمَا جَلْدَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنْ شِئْتُمَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا حَظَّ فِيهَا لِغَنِيٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا لِقَوِيٍّ مُكْتَسِبٍ .
عبیداللہ بن عدی بن خیار رضی الله عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ   دو شخصوں نے ان سے بیان کیا کہ وہ دونوں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آئے، دونوں آپ سے صدقہ مانگ رہے تھے، تو آپ نے نگاہ الٹ پلٹ کر انہیں دیکھا ( محمد کی روایت میں ( نگاہ کے بجائے ) اپنی نگاہ ہے تو دونوں کو ہٹا کٹا پایا، تو آپ نے فرمایا: ”اگر چاہو تو لے لو، ( لیکن یہ جان لو ) کہ مالدار اور کما سکنے والے شخص کے لیے اس میں کوئی حصہ نہیں ہے“۔

It was narrated that Samurah bin Jundab said: The Messenger of Allah said: Every time a man begs, it will turn into lacerations on his face (on the Day of Resurrection). So whoever wants his face to be lacerated (let him ask), and whoever does not want that (let him not ask): except in the case of a man who asks a Sultan, or he asks when he can find no alternative. '

When I finished collecting it and handed it over to him, he ordered that I be given some payment. I said to him: 'I only did for the sake of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, and my reward will be with Allah, the Mighty and Sublime. ' He said: 'Take what I have given you: I did the same take during the time of the Messenger of Allah, and I said what you have said, but the Messenger of Allah said to me: 'If you are given something without asking for it, then keep (some) and give (some) in charity. '
