It was narrated from Abu Musa that the Prophet said: Every Muslim must give charity. It was said: What if he cannot find (anything to give)? He said: Let him work with his hands and benefit himself and give in charity. It was said: What if he cannot do that? He said: Let him help someone who is in desperate need. It was said: What if he cannot do that? He said: Let him enjoin good. It was said: What if he cannot do that? He said: Let him refrain from doing evil, for that is an act of charity.
أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يُحَدِّثُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ صَدَقَةٌ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قِيلَ:‏‏‏‏ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْهَا،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَعْتَمِلُ بِيَدِهِ فَيَنْفَعُ نَفْسَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيَتَصَدَّقُ ،‏‏‏‏ قِيلَ:‏‏‏‏ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يُعِينُ ذَا الْحَاجَةِ الْمَلْهُوفَ ،‏‏‏‏ قِيلَ:‏‏‏‏ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَأْمُرُ بِالْخَيْرِ ،‏‏‏‏ قِيلَ:‏‏‏‏ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يُمْسِكُ عَنِ الشَّرِّ فَإِنَّهَا صَدَقَةٌ .
ابوموسیٰ اشعری رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”ہر مسلمان پر صدقہ ہے“، عرض کیا گیا: اگر کسی کو ایسی چیز نہ ہو جسے صدقہ کر سکے؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”اپنے ہاتھوں سے کام کرے اور اپنی ذات کو فائدہ پہنچائے، اور صدقہ کرے“، کہا گیا: اگر ایسا بھی نہ کر سکے؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”محتاج و پریشان حال کی مدد کرے“، کہا گیا: اگر ایسا بھی نہ کر سکے؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”بھلائی اور نیک باتوں کا حکم کرے“، کہا گیا: اگر یہ بھی نہ کر سکے؟ آپ نے فرمایا: ”برائیوں سے باز رہے“، یہ بھی ایک صدقہ ہے۔

It was narrated from 'Aishah that the Prophet said: When a woman give charity from her husband's house, she will have a reward, and her husband will have a similar reward, and the storekeeper will have a similar reward, without the reward of any of them detracting from the reward of the others in the slightest. The husband will be rewarded for what he earned and she will be rewarded for what she spent.
