It was narrated that Mutarrif said: I entered upon 'Uthman bin Abi Al-As and he called for milk. I said: I am fasting; He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'Fasting is a shield like the of any one of you in battle. ' Abu Hurairah said: The Messenger of Allah said: 'Fasting is a shield. أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ فَدَعَا بِلَبَنٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي صَائِمٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ الصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ مِنَ النَّارِ كَجُنَّةِ أَحَدِكُمْ مِنَ الْقِتَالِ .

مطرف کہتے ہیں کہ میں عثمان بن ابی العاص رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس آیا تو انہوں نے ( میری ضیافت کے لیے ) دودھ منگوایا، تو میں نے کہا: میں روزے سے ہوں، تو انہوں نے کہا کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتے ہوئے سنا ہے: ”روزہ آگ سے بچاؤ کے لیے کی ڈھال ہے جس طرح کہ تم میں سے کسی کے پاس لڑائی میں دشمن کے وار سے بچاؤ کے لیے ڈھال ہوتی ہے“۔

It was narrated that 'Aishah said that the Prophet said: Fasting is a shield against the Fire. Whoever starts the day of fasting, let him not act in an ignorant manner during that day. If anyone treats him in an ignorant maner, let him not insult him or curse him, rather let him say: I am fasting.' It was narrated from Sahi bin Sad that the Prophet said: For those who fast there is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Rayyan, through which no one but they will enter. When the last of them has entered it, it will be closed. Whoever enters through it will drink, and whoever drinks will never thirst again.
