It was narrated that Ibn ' Abbas said: The Messenger of Allah passed by two graves and said: They are being punished but they are not being punished for anything that was difficult to avoid. One of them used not to take care to avoid getting urine on his body or clothes, and the other used to walk about spreading gossip.' Then he took a fresh palm stalk and broke it in half, and planted one half on each grave. They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, why did not do that?' He said: 'May it be reduced for them so long as this does not dry out. '

أَخْبَرَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فِي حَدِيثِهِ عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِقَبْرَيْنِ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّهُمَا لَيُعَذَّبَانِ وَمَا يُعَذَّبَانِ فِي كَبِيرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَمَّا أَحَدُهُمَا فَكَانَ لَا يَسْتَبْرِئُ مِنْ بَوْلِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَمَّا الْآخَرُ فَكَانَ يَمْشِي بِالنَّمِيمَةِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ أَخَذَ جَرِيدَةً رَطْبَةً فَشَقَّهَا نِصْفَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ غَرَزَ فِي كُلِّ قَبْرٍ وَاحِدَةً،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ،‏‏‏‏ لِمَ صَنَعْتَ هَذَا ؟ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَعَلَّهُمَا أَنْ يُخَفَّفَ عَنْهُمَا مَا لَمْ يَيْبَسَا .

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم دو قبر کے پاس سے گزرے تو آپ نے فرمایا: ”ان دونوں کو عذاب دیا جا رہا ہے، اور یہ کسی بڑے جرم میں عذاب نہیں دئیے جا رہے ہیں، رہا ان میں سے ایک تو وہ اپنے پیشاب سے اچھی طرح پاکی حاصل نہیں کرتا تھا، اور رہا دوسرا تو وہ چغل خوری کرتا تھا، پھر آپ نے کھجور کی ایک ہری ٹہنی لی ( اور ) اسے آدھا آدھا چیر دیا، پھر ہر ایک کی قبر پہ گاڑ دیا“، تو لوگوں نے پوچھا: اللہ کے رسول! آپ نے ایسا کیوں کیا؟ تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”شاید ان دونوں کا عذاب ہلکا کر دیا جائے جب تک یہ دونوں ( ٹہنیاں ) خشک نہ ہوں“۔

If he is one of the people of paradise them he is one of the people of Paradise, and if he is one of the people of Hell, then he is one of the people of Hell, until Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, raises him up on the Day of Resurrection.

He said: The Messenger of Allah showed us the day before where they (the disbelivers) would fall. He said: This is the place where so-and-so will fall tomorrow, if Allah wills.' 'Umar said: 'By the One Who sent him with the truth! They did not miss those places, They were placed in a well and the Prophet came to them and called out: O so-and-so, son of so-and-so! O so-and-so, son of so-andso! Have you found what your Lord promised to be true? Of I have found what allah promised me to be true. 'Umar said: 'Are you speaking to bodies in which there are no souls?' He said: 'You do not hear what I say any better than they do. '

It was narrated that Anas said: During the night, the Muslims heard the Messenger of Allah standing and calling out at the well of badr; 'O Abu Jahl bin Hisham! O Shaaibh bin Rabiah! O 'Utbah bin Rabiah! O Umayyah bin Khalaf! Have you found what your Lord promised to be true? For I have found what my Lord promised me to be true.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, are you calling out to people who have turned into rotten corpses?' He said: 'You do not hear what I say any better than they do, but they cannot answer.'
