Translation

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said; The Messenger of Allah said: Allah loves to meet him, and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him. (One of the narrators) Shuraih said: 'I went to Aishan and said: O mother of the believers! I heard Abu Hurairah narrate from the Messenger of Allah a Hadith which, if that is the case, we are all doomed. She said: 'What is that?' He said: 'The Messenger of Allah said: Whoever loves to meet him, and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him. But there is no one among us who does not hate death.' She said: 'The Messenger of Allah did say that, but it is not what you think. When the eyes begin to stare, the death rattle sounds in the chest and the flesh shiver, at that point, whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him, and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him. '

أَخْبَرَنَا هَنَّادٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي زُبَيْدٍ وَهُوَ عَبْثَرُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَامِرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ أَحَبَّ لِقَاءَ اللَّهِ أَحَبَّ اللَّهُ لِقَاءَهُ،‏‏‏‏ وَمَنْ كَرِهَ لِقَاءَ اللَّهِ كَرِهَ اللَّهُ لِقَاءَهُ قَالَ شُرَيْحٌ:‏‏‏‏ فَأَتَيْتُ عَائِشَةَ،‏‏‏‏ فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ،‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَذْكُرُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدِيثًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنْ كَانَ كَذَلِكَ فَقَدْ هَلَكْنَا،‏‏‏‏ قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ وَمَا ذَاكَ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ أَحَبَّ لِقَاءَ اللَّهِ أَحَبَّ اللَّهُ لِقَاءَهُ وَمَنْ كَرِهَ لِقَاءَ اللَّهِ كَرِهَ اللَّهُ لِقَاءَهُ ،‏‏‏‏ وَلَكِنْ لَيْسَ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ إِلَّا وَهُوَ يَكْرَهُ الْمَوْتَ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ قَدْ قَالَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،‏‏‏‏ وَلَيْسَ بِالَّذِي تَذْهَبُ إِلَيْهِ وَلَكِنْ إِذَا طَمَحَ الْبَصَرُ وَحَشْرَجَ الصَّدْرُ وَاقْشَعَرَّ الْجِلْدُ فَعِنْدَ ذَلِكَ مَنْ أَحَبَّ لِقَاءَ اللَّهِ أَحَبَّ اللَّهُ لِقَاءَهُ،‏‏‏‏ وَمَنْ كَرِهَ لِقَاءَ اللَّهِ كَرِهَ اللَّهُ لِقَاءَهُ.

ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: جو اللہ تعالیٰ سے ملنا چاہے اللہ تعالیٰ ( بھی ) اس سے ملنا چاہے گا، اور جو اللہ تعالیٰ سے ملنا ناپسند کرے اللہ تعالیٰ ( بھی ) اس سے ملنا ناپسند کرے گا ۔ شریح کہتے ہیں: میں ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے پاس آیا، اور میں نے کہا: ام المؤمنین! میں نے ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی ایک حدیث ذکر کرتے سنا ہے، اگر ایسا ہے تو ہم ہلاک ہو گئے، انہوں نے پوچھا: وہ کیا ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ہے: جو اللہ سے ملنا چاہے اللہ ( بھی ) اس سے ملنا چاہے گا، اور جو اللہ تعالیٰ سے ملنا ناپسند کرے اللہ تعالیٰ ( بھی ) اس سے ملنا ناپسند کرے گا لیکن ہم میں سے کوئی ( بھی ) ایسا نہیں جو موت کو ناپسند نہ کرتا ہو۔ تو انہوں نے کہا: بیشک یہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ہے، لیکن اس کا یہ مطلب نہیں جو تم سمجھتے ہو بلکہ اس کا مطلب یہ ہے کہ جب نگاہ پتھرا جائے، سینہ میں دم گھٹنے لگے، اور رونگٹے کھڑے ہو جائیں، اس وقت جو اللہ تعالیٰ سے ملنا چاہے اللہ تعالیٰ ( بھی ) اس سے ملنا چاہے گا، اور جو اللہ تعالیٰ سے ملنا ناپسند کرے اللہ تعالیٰ ( بھی ) اس سے ملنا ناپسند کرے گا ۱؎۔

Amr (one of the narrators) added in his narration: t was said: 'O Messenger of Allah mean hating death? Fore all of us hate death.' He said; 'That is when he is dying; if he is given the glad tidings of the mercy and forgiveness of Allah, he loves to meet Allah and Allah loves to meet him. But if he is given the tidings of the punishment of Allah, he hates to meet Allah and Allah hates to meet him. '
