Translation

Hamzah bin Al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (narrated) that his father said: I was with the Prophet (ﷺ) on a journey, and he said: 'Stay back O Mughirah! Go ahead, O people!' So I went back, and I had with me a vessel of water. The people went ahead, and there the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) relieved himself. when he came back I went and poured water for him. He was wearing a Roman Jubbah with narrow sleeves, and he wanted to expose his hands (to wash them) but the sleeves were too tight, so he brought his hands out from beneath the Jubbah and washed his head, and wiped over his Khuffs.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ حَمْزَةَ بْنَ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ يُحَدِّثُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ تَخَلَّفْ يَا مُغِيرَةُ وَامْضُوا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَتَخَلَّفْتُ وَمَعِي إِدَاوَةٌ مِنْ مَاءٍ وَمَضَى النَّاسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَذَهَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِحَاجَتِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ ذَهَبْتُ أَصُبُّ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَيْهِ جُبَّةٌ رُومِيَّةٌ ضَيِّقَةُ الْكُمَّيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُخْرِجَ يَدَهُ مِنْهَا فَضَاقَتْ عَلَيْهِ فَأَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ مِنْ تَحْتِ الْجُبَّةِ فَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ وَيَدَيْهِ وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ . أخبرنا إسحاق بن إبراهيم حدثنا وكيع أنبأنا سفيان عن أبي قيس عن هزيل بن شرحبيل عن المغيرة بن شعبة أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم مسح على الجوربين والنعلين ‏.‏ قال أبو عبد الرحمن ما نعلم أحدا تابع أبا قيس على هذه الرواية والصحيح عن المغيرة أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم مسح على الخفين ‏.

مغیرہ بن شعبہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ ایک سفر میں تھا تو آپ نے فرمایا: مغیرہ! تم پیچھے ہو جاؤ اور لوگو! تم چلو ، چنانچہ میں پیچھے ہو گیا، میرے پاس پانی کا ایک برتن تھا، لوگ آگے نکل گئے، تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم قضائے حاجت کے لیے تشریف لے گئے، جب واپس آئے تو میں آپ پر پانی ڈالنے لگا، آپ تنگ آستین کا ایک رومی جبہ پہنے ہوئے تھے، آپ نے اس سے اپنا ہاتھ نکالنا چاہا مگر جبہ تنگ ہو گیا، تو آپ نے جبہ کے نیچے سے اپنا ہاتھ نکال لیا، پھر اپنا چہرہ اور اپنے دونوں ہاتھ دھوئے، اور اپنے سر کا مسح کیا، اور اپنے دونوں موزوں پر مسح کیا۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اپنے دونوں پاتابوں اور جوتوں پر مسح کیا۔

It was narrated that Safwan bin 'Assal said: The Prophet (ﷺ) granted us a dispensation when traveling, allowing us not to take off our Khuffs for three days and three nights.

It was narrated that Zirr said: I asked Safwan bin 'Assal about wiping over the Khuffs, and he said: 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to tell us, when we were travelling, to wipe over our Khuffs and not take them off for three nights in the event of defecating, urinating or sleeping; only in the case of Janabah.'

It was narrated that 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) set a time limit of three days and three nights for the traveler, and one day and one night for the resident - meaning, with regards to wiping (over the Khuffs).

It was narrated that Shuraih bin Hani' said: I asked 'Aishah about wiping over the Khuffs and she said: 'Go to 'Ali, for he knows more about that than I do.' So I went to 'Ali and asked him about wiping (over the Khuffs) and he said: 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to tell us to wipe (over the Khuffs) for one day and one night for the resident, and three for the traveler.'

An-Nazzal bin Sabrah said: I saw 'Ali (may Allah be please with him) praying Zuhr, then he sat to tend to the people's needs, and when the time for 'Asr came, a vessel of water was brought to him. He took a handful of it and wiped his face, forearms, head and feet with it, then he took what was left and drank standing up. He said: 'People dislike this, but I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) doing it. This is the Wudu' of one who has not committed Hadath.

It was narrated from 'Amr bin 'Amir that Anas mentioned: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was brought a small vessel (of water) and he performed Wudu'. I said: Did the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) perform Wudu' for every prayer? He said: Yes. He said: What about you? He said: We used to pray all the prayers so long as we did not commit Hadath. He said: And we used to pray all the prayers with (one) Wudu'.
