It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed Zuhr with two rak'ahs, then said the salam. They said: Has the prayer been shortened? So he stood up and prayed two rak'ahs, then he said the salam, then he prostrated twice.
أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزُ بْنُ أَسَدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَنَّهُ،‏‏‏‏ سَمِعَ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ يُحَدِّثُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ صَلَّى صَلَاةَ الظُّهْرِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ قُصِرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَامَ وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ .
ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے نماز ظہر دو رکعت پڑھائی، پھر آپ نے سلام پھیر دیا، تو لوگ کہنے لگے کہ نماز کم کر دی گئی ہے، تو آپ کھڑے ہوئے، اور دو رکعت مزید پڑھائی، پھر سلام پھیرا پھر دو سجدے کئے۔

Dhul-Shimalain caught up with him and said: O Messenger of Alah, has the prayer been shortened or did you forget? He said: The prayer has not been shortened, and I did not forget. He said: Yes, by the One Who sent you with the truth. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Is Dhul-Yadain speaking the truth? They said: 'Yes.' So he led the people in praying two rak'ahs.

Dhul-Shimalain said to him: 'Has the prayer been shortened or did you forget, O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)?' The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Is Dhul-Yadain speaking the truth?' They said: Yes. So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood up and completed the prayer.
