Narrated Buraydah ibn al-Hasib: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم prohibited us to pray in a sheet of cloth without crossing both its ends, and he also prohibited us to pray in a wrapper without putting on a sheet.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ فَارِسٍ الذُّهْلِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو تُمَيْلَةَ يَحْيَى بْنُ وَاضِحٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمُنِيبِ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ الْعَتَكِيُّ،‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ فِي لِحَافٍ لَا يَتَوَشَّحُ بِهِ وَالْآخَرُ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ فِي سَرَاوِيلَ وَلَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ رِدَاءٌ .

بریدہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایسے لحاف میں نماز پڑھنے سے منع فرمایا ہے جس کے دائیں کنارے کو بائیں کندھے پر اور بائیں کنارے کو دائیں کندھے پر نہ ڈالا جا سکے، اور دوسری بات جس سے آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے منع فرمایا ہے یہ کہ تم پاجامہ میں نماز پڑھو اور تمہارے اوپر کوئی چادر نہ ہو۔

Narrated Abdullah ibn Masud: I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم say: He who lets his garment trail during prayer out of pride, Allah, the Almighty, has nothing to do with pardoning him and protecting him from Hell.

Abu Hurairah said: while a man was praying letting his lower garment trail, the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said to him: Go and perform ablution. He, therefore, went and performed ablution and then returned. He (the prophet) again said: Go and perform ablution. He again went, performed ablution and returned. A man said to him (the prophet): Messenger of Allah, why did you order him to perform ablution? He said: he was praying with lower garment trailing, and does not accept the prayer of a man who lets his lower garment trail.

Zaid bin Qunfudh said that his mother asked Umm Salamah: In how many clothes should a woman pray? She replied; she would pray wearing a veil and a long shirt which covers the surface of her feet.

Umm Salamah said that she asked the prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم; Can a woman pray in a shirt and veil without wearing a lower garment? He replied: if the shirt is ample and covers the surface of her feet. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been transmitted by Malik bin Anas, Bakr bin Mudar, Hafs bin Ghiyaht, Ismail bin Jafar, Ibn Abu Dhi'b, and Ibn Ishaq from Muhammad bin Zaid on the authority of his mother who narrated from Umm Salamah. None of these narrators mention the name of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. They reported it directly from Umm Salamah.

Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Allah does not accept the prayer of a woman who has reached puberty unless she wears a veil. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been narrated by Sa;id bin Abi 'Arubah from Qatadah on the authority of al-Hasan from the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم.

Muhammad said: Aishah came to Sufiyyah Umm Talhat al-Talhat and seeing her daughter she said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم entered (into the house) and there was a girl in my apartment. He gave his lower garment (wrapper) to me and said; tear it into two pieces and give one-half to this (girl) and the other half to the girl with Umm Salamah. I think she has reached puberty, or (he said) I think have reached puberty. Abu Dawud said: Hisham has narrated it similarly from Muhammad bin sirin.
