Narrated Ibn Abbas: I spent a night with the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. When he woke up from his sleep (in the latter part of the night for prayer) he came to his ablution water. He took the tooth-stick and used it. He then recited the verse: Verily in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are tokens (of His Sovereignty) for men of understanding (iii-190). He recited these verses up to the end of the chapter or he finished the whole chapter. He then performed ablution and came to the place of prayer. He then said two rak'ahs of prayer. He then lay down on the bed and slept as much as Allaah wished. He then got up and did the same. He then lay down and slept. He then got up and did the same. Every time he used the tooth-stick and offered two rak'ah of prayer. He then offered the prayer known as witr. Abu Dawud said: Fudail on the authority if Husain reported the wording: He then used the tooth-stick and performed ablution while he was reciting the verses: Verily in the creation of the heaves and the earth. . . until he finished the chapter.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا حُصَيْنٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ،‏‏‏‏عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ بِتُّ لَيْلَةً عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا اسْتَيْقَظَ مِنْ مَنَامِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَتَى طَهُورَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَخَذَ سِوَاكَهُ فَاسْتَاكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ تَلَا هَذِهِ الْآيَاتِ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلافِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ لآيَاتٍ لأُولِي الأَلْبَابِ سورة آل عمران آية 190 حَتَّى قَارَبَ أَنْ يَخْتِمَ السُّورَةَ أَوْ خَتَمَهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ فَأَتَى مُصَلَّاهُ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَنَامَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ اسْتَيْقَظَ فَفَعَلَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَنَامَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ اسْتَيْقَظَ فَفَعَلَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَنَامَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ اسْتَيْقَظَ فَفَعَلَ مِثْل ذَلِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏كُلُّ ذَلِكَ يَسْتَاكُ وَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ أَوْتَرَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ رَوَاهُ ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَتَسَوَّكَ وَتَوَضَّأَ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ سورة آل عمران آية 190 حَتَّى خَتَمَ السُّورَةَ

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے ایک رات نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ گزاری، جب آپ نیند سے بیدار ہوئے تو اپنے وضو کے پانی کے پاس آئے، اپنی مسواک لے کر مسواک کی، پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے آیت کریمہ «إن في خلق السموات والأرض واختلاف الليل والنهار لآيات لأولي الألباب» ۱؎ کی تلاوت کی یہاں تک کہ سورۃ ختم کے قریب ہو گئی، یا ختم ہو گئی، اس کے بعد آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے وضو کیا پھر اپنے مصلی پر آئے اور دو رکعت نماز پڑھی، پھر واپس اپنے بستر پر جب تک اللہ نے چاہا جا کر سوئے رہے، پھر نیند سے بیدار ہوئے اور اسی طرح کیا ( یعنی مسواک کر کے وضو کیا اور دو رکعت نماز پڑھی ) پھر اپنے بستر پر جا کر سوئے رہے، پھر نیند سے بیدار ہوئے، اور اسی طرح کیا، پھر اپنے بستر پر جا کر سوئے رہے اس کے بعد نیند سے بیدار ہوئے اور اسی طرح کیا، ہر بار آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم مسواک کرتے، دو رکعت نماز پڑھتے تھے، اس کے بعد آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے وتر پڑھی۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: اسے ابن فضیل نے حصین سے روایت کی ہے، اس میں اس طرح ہے کہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مسواک کی اور وضو کیا، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم آیت کریمہ «إن في خلق السموات والأرض» پڑھ رہے تھے، یہاں تک کہ پوری سورۃ ختم کر دی۔

Narrated Abul Malih: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Allah does not accept charity from goods acquired by embezzlement as He does not accept prayer without purification.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Allaah, the Exalted, does not accept the prayer of any of you when you are defiled until you performed ablution.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: Abu Ghutayf al-Hudhali reported: I was in the company of Ibn Umar. When the call was made for the noon (zuhr) prayer, he performed ablution and said the prayer. When the call for the afternoon (Asr) prayer was made, he again performed ablution. Thus I asked him (about the reason of performing ablution). He replied: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: For a man who performs ablution in a state of purity, ten virtuous deeds will be recorded (in his favour). Abu Dawud said: This is the tradition narrated by Musaddad, and it is more perfect.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم, was asked about water (in desert country) and what is frequented by animals and wild beasts. He replied: When there is enough water to fill two pitchers, it bears no impurity.
